Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
It's a lot of work but I have a lot of support and encouragement from my crazy family that wants to take it to the mountains. Be careful mine started as an engine and axle swap... Then a conversation with the wife and kids and now it is a whole new ball game! But in the end the fun and...
I got the doors sealed up finally.
Rear upper shock mount installed for the final time.
Also got the rear hangers lowered and installed.
Then I enlisted a little help with putting the bushings in the shackles. He was very excited to help and get to use a hammer.
Shackles test...
I have a 30 gallon tank for it. As low as it hangs I'm not sure I'd want an extra 5 gallons. Access and serviceability are very useful things.
Thanks, good to know I inspired you instead of just my empty wallet!
Sorry I'm getting tired. I had already cut out the heat shield in those pictures. It was in the way of the bar and would have hit the shock as it cycled. The bar and brackets are the new upper shock mounts for the rear to use longer remote reservoir shocks. The 3 bolts you can see in the...
We decided to head out of town for a bit the other weekend. The kids were having camping withdrawals... So we loaded up the truck and took of for the Badlands. Nothing too crazy just a some fun and exploring. We found us a spot next to a ridge overlooking the badlands. Set up camp and...
Started on fitting the upper shock mounts this afternoon as well. I had to trim some of the heat shield out of the way for clearance.
I had to drill out the original holes for some 1/2 inch bolts.
After some looking I decided to just trim the heat shield back all the way to the...
And the sanding and coats of filler primer have continued.
Finally have it all smooth and straight. So I can scratch and dent it latter...
Tomorrow I should be able to lay a coat or 2 of epoxy over it to seal it up.
I hope you get that bolt out without much more trouble. It's a pain when that happens. Sounds like you may end up removing the exhaust to get better access. or if possible weld a nut on but since you can't get a ratchet in welding it would be tough.
keep up the good work! Won't be long and you'll be out enjoying it again. Every time I got on a roll making progress on mine this summer something else came along to pull me away from it.
Fuel is your only concern. As long as the batteries are good. When below zero avoid using power from the truck when it isn't running. Run a good anti gel additive when you fill up heading into the colder climate and you'll be fine.
Here is the passenger door glued back together.
All sanded down with 80 grit.
2 coats of epoxy primer.
I managed to git some filler work and smoothing done on the drivers door.
I forgot to take some pictures of the door before I sprayed epoxy over it to seal it up. But I did...
On to the passenger side door. This one had less rust and no dents so I have a much smaller area to fix.
Cleaned up and ready for some new metal. Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos of it after.
I took the piece I removed and used it as the template for the patch. I cut the...
Primer on the rear quarters. Turned out pretty good. Smooth and straight.
Cutting the rust out from the lower door skin. Had to patch some of the inside as well.
Had to straighten the inner parts as well.
Primer on the inside of the door.
I flanged the upper part and decided...
Thanks. Careful buying a welder and big compressor that leads to building random things and the open space in your garage shrinking.
The spring shackles are from Solo Motorsports.
