Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
If you liked One Second after you should look into the "Going Home" series. I Audio Book and podcast on my daily backcountry commute and have gone through just under 100 books of this genre over the past 12 years.
But at least you know & understand that. No shame in that. Good for you, other travelers, and most of all your dog. Unfortunately some don’t understand it or just try to force it. Results are never good. Seen a lot of bird dogs that “just don’t hunt” much to the disappointment of their owners...
This is a great thread! Lots of good info. I’d like to add being somewhat of devils advocate and since my property borders a rural Park. Please keep in mind that not all people love your dog as much as you do. Over the years off leash dogs have frequently approach my children in our yard...
Agreed two totally different needs for a daily driver. Closest I get to the City is Portland and while I work on the fringe I steer clear of down town. I get the kid thing also, two young daughters that are primarily hauled around in my wife’s 4Runner. I gave up on trying to protect the...
I just recently went the other direction with my commuter. After running a 2006 Toyota Carolla for the past 10 years, 220K miles I just bought a 2019 Tacoma as a daily driver. My wife currently has a 2018 4runner and was driving an FJ before that. I was ready and needing something more. For my...
Laidback
Good sense of humor
Not afraid to get their hands dirty
Able to think outside the box
Respectful of others experience and the trail
While some rigging and off-road experience would be a bonus it’s actually pretty low on my list of priorities.
* feel like I just posted on a dating site...
My oldest is 11 and while she would rather be hiking a trail than driving is always looking for Elk, deer, bear, or asking the names of mountains & lakes. Our youngest being 7 is still in the “are we there yet?” mode and wondering why her Pad isn’t working or what to eat. My solution is usually...
I think we all know this guy but I have a co-worker that has always had the beefiest most tricked out 4x4 around. Every winter with the first snow or ice like clockwork he puts it in the ditch. As always, it’s totally the trucks fault. Bahahaha
So as said above, if you know your equipment and...
As much as my wife and I joke about “when you kids move out” there is honestly no one I’d rather be on an “adventure” with than my kids. While it’s really cool for me as a Dad I know that for them it’s making memories that they will have long after I’m gone.
I instantly knew what bridge that was. (BOG) I was on it yesterday. Great pictures, food prep looked next level and I do love me some Jameson while sitting around camp!
Living a couple miles from the southern end Im adding that trip to the list.
I will add if the kids are going along make sure your first aid kit is well stocked since being kids they may not always make the best decisions :) Our trip yesterday ended early and turned into a 2 hour trip down a forest service road to Urgent Care when my oldest ripped off a toenail and...
Exactly this!
I go solo a lot but as a family our daughters 7 & 11 go with us when it fits into their schedule. Between school, sports, and horses, they stay pretty busy.
Yeah that hill is about 3500 feet from our driveway and you could feel the heat. It turned day to night and was raining down burnt sticks the size of pencils. Sent the wife and kids upwind the day it blew up. In the end it ran about 30 miles and burned 50k acres. All from a kid with some fireworks.
