Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Welcome, nice looking rig! I'm down in Tucson, we have a pretty strong OB membership here in AZ. Come say hi in the Arizona Overlanders thread as well!
GMRS and FRS both share the same channel frequencies now. The main difference with the two, aside from the license requirement, is that GMRS radios can send much more power than FRS radios, therefore the range is better and the signal quality is better. All GMRS/FRS radios of all brands will be...
Sorry, didn't mean to come of as condescending or elitist. I took OP's question as "Should I get a radio?" and responded with essentially "Yes. get one" with some justifications. I do tend to blabber on when trying to convince people to get licensed though :)
I think the primary purpose is so...
I have CB, GMRS, and ham and I use at least one of them on every trip I take, especially if there are other vehicles with us on the trip. As has been stated by others in this thread, it's also a safety feature. You wouldn't head out even on an easy trail without a jack, a spare, and a medkit. I...
We have three kids so we typically start looking for camp at 3pm, that gives us an hour or so to find a decent dispersed spot and still have time to set up camp and get dinner cooked for the kids before they start melting down.
There's like a 20% chance I'll try to make it. The timing is the main issue I have. If I drive out there, by the time I drive back here to AZ i'll only have a couple days to unload, clean, restock, reload everything before we head out to MX for a couple weeks. I suspect that timing would leave...
I would highly recommend going! I've never been to East, i think it's quite a bit smaller than West, but I took the whole family along to EXPO West this year, including the baby and everybody had a blast. There are so many other families there to meet and play with and gather experience from...
You should be fine. There was a guy (sorry, dude, i forgot your name!) last year on my "team" (Yellow!) that had a completely stock Chevy Colorado with low hanging slider steps and he made it the whole way with not much issue. Pretty darn impressive.
For me the setup was not premeditated by any means. I just happened to have a wifi-only tablet, and old unused external bluetooth GPS, and we already have a cell -> wifi puck in the Jeep available. As i was shopping around for a GSP enabled tablet that we could use for navigation i realized i...
I really wanted to go this year again and was hoping it would fall on the weekend before. My buddy is getting married the same weekend as OTG so I gotta skip it this year, unfortunately.
Just followed you on instagram! I'm on there as handsomeanchor
I'm down in Tucson so lemme know if you ever wanna get our families together on a run! We usually go out a couple times a month, sometimes long trips, sometimes quick weekend trips.
Our 10 year old is special needs as well. He was...
Awesome that the event is happening this year, I'm bummed that my buddy is getting married that weekend! I mean... i'm not bummed he's getting married, i'm bummed i'll have to miss OTG 2018! I was holding out hope that it would happen on the last weekend of Sept. Have fun everybody who's going...
feel free to hit me up if you have questions on the setup. you need to install an app that will overwrite the device GPS (which is nil for wifi-only, typically) with the data coming from whatever Bluetooth GPS puck you end up using. it's pretty easy, but just wanted to call it out so you know.
