Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
We have updated to using GMRS Channel 15. Make sure your security tones and whatnot are off so you'll be able to hear us. We will be monitoring it around camp as well for those traveling in.
Sorry guys, we set the limit so low because we're not sure what kind of camping spaces will be available and while normally we'd pile into a spot like stacking fire wood, right now we felt it best to start with a smaller number.
If there are folks who want to day trip it on Saturday or I know a...
That is indeed my bad. I was thinking that the only difference was the onboard APRS functionality of the 710. It appears as though the TNC is built into the head.
I will correct my post directly!
I'll post this here I guess.
Thanks to a buddy being out of work right now, our interest in getting our TM-D710Gs on the air with APRSDroid and both of us beating our heads against the issue, we now have our tablets running APRSDroid through our 710s in full control. This is a really cool step...
@witchdoctor_33 and I will also be using Ham 146.460 for those with licenses who might be traveling in Friday or Saturday. I'll have my truck radio on and probably my HT as well.
The planned route is to go up the easier trail from the lake to Flagpole Knob then onward west to Reddish Knob. Then continue from there toward Elkhorn Lake to make camp for Saturday night.
This is a good trail ride for people who might not have a lot of experience driving off-road...
Go to the rally point page linked at the top of that thread. There's a basic itinerary listed there in the description. We're going to try to be rolling by 10:30 Saturday morning, headed for Flag Pole up Switzer Lake/Dunkle Hollow Rd.
More of us are trending to ham but GMRS is what we normally use. The clarity of FM vs AM and the higher power GMRS offers with the license is much nicer. Plus the smaller antenna size and fact that it works with the unlicensed FRS service for folks just starting out is nice too!
Awesome...
Anyone been bringing anything back to life during the quarantine?
I've got the parts but need to jump on my 242B. I've been focusing on my Xterra but will hopefully get that 242B lit as a Rat Rod build. The paint on the fount (rare painted B) is rough and the vent is rougher than I think is...
I'm not familiar with that platform and it looks like you've already ordered the spacers but you can check Nisstec for options I think.

And for what it's worth, for general performance both on and off-road I usually recommend Old Man...
I'm in!
Please read the whole Rally Point as there is some important information in it for everyone.
Also, please feel free to ask any questions now. This trip will be great for folks just starting out and most vehicles with decent ground clearance will do fine.
We do ask that you have...
