Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Yes on the pinion nut. Though I would clean nut and pinion well with brake clean, blow dry and put some red locktite on it and then torque it down.
I think a 14 bolt would work ok for you and be relatively cheap. When you start getting into the 10 lug stuff it can get expensive quick...
You can change the width on a GM 14 bolt or Dana 70 dually by using SRW or DRW hubs. Here's a link to billavista, he has excellent articles on this process among other things.

Dana 60s don't have crush sleeves. They use shims to set pinion depth and bearing preload. Have you tried looking for a Dana 70 dually rearend from a Chevy dually? That's what would have been the rearend most likely that came behind your front axle your using. Be aware they came in different...
I grew up and lived in Humboldt County for a few decades. Been over 199 many many times and the Smith River is the most beautiful river in the country. Enjoyed your trip report. I thought McGrew was closed, is it open again? When are you going next year? I might make the trek down from N ID...
Look for stuff on Libby, Yaak, Eureka, and Lake Koocanusa in northwest MT. Beautiful area and close to Kalispell. Be prepared to adjust plans based on fires. Also stop by Farragut State Park in ID north of Coeur d'Alene.
I
I don't know if he's on here but "foy" on the expeditionportal.com is a MT guru. He actually worked digging fossils years ago in eastern MT. I would try and get a hold of him for some really good Intel.
I'm jealous. Go a bit south of the highline and take a ferry or two across the Missouri to get to Fort Benton. I used to stop at the Missouri Breaks center on the river and eat lunch on my way back to work in ND, it's pretty cool. Just one warning, if it rains get off the dirt and get to...
Or drive a Delorean that can hit 88mph and go back a few years. Of course unpaved roads and Deloreans usually don't go together, unless the Delorean is Doc Brown's.
Here's an old shcool house between Havre and Great Falls just off the highway. There are a few abandoned homesteads, churches, schools, and cemeteries. Also some missile silos that are still active.
Fort Peck area is awesome. Fort Benton is another very cool place. You could drive up to Fort Peck and then drive across the high line (hiway 2) to Havre and down to Missoula through Fort Benton and Great Falls and then back to Bozeman. There are some cool dirt roads you can make your way...
