  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Water Purification whats your method

We always carry a couple different filters with us. Since we're backpackers we always have a Sawyer Filter, and Aquamira in our packs and vehicles. In addition to those we carry a Katadin gravity filter bag, and a Katadin Hiker Pro pump filter.

    Camp stoves

We currently have Partner Steel stoves. The 18" is a great smaller 2 burner stove, but the 22" 2 burner stove is the perfect size for 2 cast iron skillets, or 1 griddle. We also have 2-3 MSR Pocket Rockets that we use for backpacking.

    Sleeping Gear

For overlanding we have a custom 3" foam bed in our Rover that's quite comfy. For camping/backpacking we use either Big Agnes or Therm-a-Rest sleeping pads paired with Mid-Atlantic Mountain Gear quilts. Quilts take a bit of getting used to since they're not like a traditional bag, but they still...

    Favorite Dehydrated Meals?

In addition the MH, and Backpacker's Pantry there are a few others. Companies like Elements Meals, Packit Gourmet, Alpine Aire, and Good-to-Go are all good options. We don't carry much dehydrated stuff anymore simply due to the cost of them. A favorite meal of ours are Rotinni noddles, mini...

    Tents

All of our tents were purchased for backpacking. We currently have, and use the hell out of our North Face MICK SL2 tent. This tent has seen over 3000 trail miles, and over 200 nights of use in the last couple years. The tent has held up very well, and North Face has repaired some mesh damage as...

Single burner or two burner on the trail?

We carry a 22" Partner Steel stove with a 5lb propane tank. Of course if you're trying to cut down on space this won't be your best option. Partner Steel does make smaller stoves, and those perform very well. If you're looking for something pretty small I would go with a backpacking style stove...

What Camp Saw Do You Use? (Non-powered hand saws)

We carry a 15" Sven-Saw with us at all times. This is a great little compact folding saw that we also take backpacking, and use when we do trail maintenance. It cuts very well, takes up very little space, is compact, and pretty inexpensive.

What pans do you guys use??

Lodge cast iron everything. We carry a Lodge griddle, and large Lodge frying pan. Once you get them well seasoned they're fantastic, but if they're not well seasoned things tend to stick some. These cast items are also paired with a 22" Partner Steel Stove which is amazing.

What Trail Condition Do You Fear The Most?

I worry about any condition when I'm not behind the wheel. My partner (wife) is a great driver, but I don't like not being in control. I'm not fond of muddy situations, or sketchy narrow roads with drop offs.

    Colorado Help

Right around the 486 mark unless we decide to add the Collegiate Loop. Which would then make it closer to 580 I think.

    Colorado Help

Neither. The thread was moved to the appropriate section. Hyperlinked in the first post. Long story short. The wife and I are hiking the Colorado Trail, and need some help with vehicle storage and shuttles. Of course the member(s) will be compensated for their time.

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

I think the final purchase has now been made. To say I'm not happy with our current Terrafirma lift is an extreme understatement. We've blown 3 front shocks in 2 years, and the rear springs are sagging badly. After a lengthy discussion with GBR Utah we pulled the trigger on a new OEM lift. We...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Once everything is finished up we'll be sure to give a good walk around of the Rover. We have a lot of time invested into our Rover, and a lot of personal touches.

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

With the switches being a bust this past weekend I decided to move on. I was able to install front and rear differential skids, and the Southdown snorkel. My wife only asked for a couple things on the Rover, and having a snorkel was one of them. I didn't get pictures of the differential skids...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

With the long weekend I was able to get some much needed work done, but not as much as I was hoping. I started the weekend by trying to wire up our led lights from Cali Raised. I always like sticking with OEM switches on the dash, and keeping the OEM switches on the Rover was what I wanted...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

We've had the dual battery setup in for a little over a week now, and everything has been great with it. I would recommend the National Luna for members who don't want to mess around with purchasing individual items. That being said, if I were to do it again on our Disco I would NOT have bought...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

We haven't had the National Luna long enough to know if we'll like it. At first glance it seems like a well build unit, and that it'll do the job just fine. We'll have a better idea of it once we're on the road, and can get some use out of it. I'm still working on the cooling issues, but...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Over the weekend I was able to get quite a bit done. I swapped out the bad afn clutch, fan blade, and ac fan motor for good parts. Clutch - 922790 Blade - 620-112 Motor - PM9116 (fan blade trimming required) Sorry for some of the not so good pictures. I usually have my wife take pictures, but...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Some quick tests last night showed a couple issues, and are most likely the reason for the temps starting to rise. For starters the fan clutch is toast, and needs to be replaced. Second in line is the AC condenser fan which is seized up, and the motor needs to be replaced on it. Lastly, it looks...
