Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Ahh winter camping. We do that LOTS. In places penguins dont talk about.

This is what you need, and what we use. Good to -35'c no problem. The trick to this thing is to sleep with minimal...
if you have a swr meter, you will be ok. Just make sure you get good readings on it. Also check how flexible it is. If its a flexible whip it should be ok under tree limbs and such, if not you might want to get a spring for the bottom and maybe a tie-down rope.
My new (to me) rig. Shiro is her name. (Japanese for White) Unfortunately the truck wasnt working out. So I bought my wife a new one. And I got her slightly used one. But. Now I can sleep in the back of it.
Now Where to start.
Not sure, but the best thing I kept in the bag was the stuff I can use quickly and effectively. Secondary to that is anything expedient and available. Clean socks seemed to be a common thing I was seeing. When it comes to doing field medicine your limitations are your kit and creativity. Of...
One man, one kit.
But thats just me. If I see a newb struggling Ill help them out once my kits packed up, or set out. But for right now, Im sleeping out of the back of the rig, so my "set up" consists of.. closing the hatch and putting the folding chair away.
Same here. Afghanistan Vet here. Bison armored ambulance driver. And yep. I've had my battles with the demon. And getting out does help. So does talking about it. Im glad to see were not alone here brother.
I have it, I just havent installed it in my new rig, but we put a node in on our repeater we just built. Its nice because our cell service here has more holes then a block of swiss cheese.. Our repeater doesnt... As much.
Ah, God loves jimmies indeed. :)
If your still in the YYC, you have 4 examiners in your city that you can write your test through. But if your an ex LCIS, or SIG OP, you might not have too much trouble with it.

Thats the link to the exam...
Oh.. And all you guys will need for overland stuff is included in the Basic with honors liscense.
The questions for the test are randomly selected from a list of tons.
It would be a shame if someone left the questions and answers lying around.
*coughcoughcough |...
I do agree with the Canadian test being difficult as hell to complete. I'm an Examiner for Industry Canada, we have heard you all and new testing is on the way to make it easier. If you happen to be in my area, shoot me a PM and I'll help you get your exam sorted out, free. Examiners are...
I dont have a taco, but I do have a camper shell. I think its a lund. Keep an eye on your local classifieds, (Kijiji, Craigslist?, facebook marketplace, and you can find them pretty cheap for a hundred bucks or so.)
I think camper shells are the ultimate deal to be honest. You can sleep in...
Trucks outfitted with APRS in a pelican case so that it can be tracked. Relatively inexpensive. All the shiny bits (Ham radio) gps, dashcam are all quickly removable. Tonneau cover in the back.
The area I live in has a problem with random theft of car contents. Basically the suspects will...
Things I wanted:
Front tow hooks,
Ladder rack for strapping tools, tranks.
Those neat plastic ramps for recovery
5000lb comealong.
Things I needed:
Bigger first aid kit. The little walmart ones suck.
Off-road GPS. Or a bunch of good topo maps.
Spare recovery strap
5gal gas tank.
Work related, yes. Basic winter warfare. Its nice providing you have the right gear to keep warm. Perfect time of year to explore and camp if you have allergies to nature.
I have to agree with this post, and I cannot emphasize enough about the point of airbags and radios. Or mounting radios where a collision could send them flying around the cabin. I myself have watched a CB go through a back window from an airbag because someone thought the front of the dash was...
