Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Looking for recommendations on what type of wheels to buy. I want to get 15” wheels not sure if I should go to steel or aluminum. I like the American Racing Wheel. I have BFG M/T tires now. Thinking of switching to A/T which I had on my pickups. What size tire would be good. I want to stay...
Today took my XJ out for a ride. No destination. Since I bought it it has spent most of the time in the shop. I’ve owned it 2 months and put a total of 50 miles on it. Took the pup with me and went for a drive of maybe 100 miles looking at some frozen over lakes.
I have a D35 in the rear. I’ve heard they aren’t a good axle. Going the 8.25 would be a better option. Less money. Would like to get rid of the drum brakes in the rear.
I want to keep the tire narrow like it’s supposed to be. My plan is to find a Set of 15” aluminum wheels and sell the 17” wheels and tires. Plenty of tread. Not sure if I should stay with the M/T or go with the A/T. All my pickups had the A/T load E. That might be to heavy of a tire for the XJ.
I’ll rethink my choice of axles. My goals are to be able to do some of the Northeast Adventure trips and some of the Vermont Overland trips. The Jeep came with the 17” wheels. Want to go down to the stock 15”. Would like to go to 33” tires but don’t want to cut the fenders. Jeep has a Rough...
Starting to save for axles. Pending nothing happens. Thinking of Dana 44 in the front with 4X4 hubs and a 9” rear end. 4.56 gears. Would that be to much for my XJ? I’ll be running 255/75/17. Thinking of dropping down to 15” wheels.
3 of the plugs looked like they were smashed , Air filter was melted into the air filter housing. No more fuel smell. Jeep is running better. Gas mileage is still bad but I think that’s because of the bigger tires. Will regear when I can afford new axles.
Looks like the Jeep is running rich. Fuel smell out of the tailpipe. Going to change the plugs and filter and get it running right. Couldn’t find any leaks anywhere.
I hate not being more mechanically inclined and not having anyone near me that I can trust. I want to learn but never have had the chance. Sorry just ranting
Not seeing any wetness under the vehicle and not seeing any wetness on the fuel lines. Will check them out again. Could the engine catch on fire. It just left the dealer after they worked on the 4WD. You would have thought they would have caught it.
Jeep hasn’t run over anything or scraped against anything. I’ll check in the morning to see if it’s coming out of the tailpipe. I think the Jeep might be running rough.
