  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    OB Approved Recovery

I have recently purchased a soft shackle and kinetic recovery rope to add to my recovery gear. I have seen these in use and they are just awesome. My next step is to convert my winch cable to synthetic rope and a closed winching setup. There's no such thing as being too safe.

I can't take credit for it.. I think I originally heard it from @BlkWgn on here.. And he was right. Its hard to resist the urge to "keep up with the jones' " but just getting out there and exploring helped me realize where my priorities lay with modifications to the truck.

    Novice here!

Welcome! The first thing I tell anyone who is looking into getting into overlanding is this... Fuel up the rig, and get out there. The more you get out there, the more you will learn what you need or want to make your vehicle more capable for the types of adventures you like to go on. Fuel up...

    Winch options

I run a bulldog 12k lb winch on my truck, only because I got the winch as a christmas gift. Its never let me down, but it is a little on the slow side. I also have steel cable on it currently, but will eventually look into replacing the cable with synthetic rope and something like a Factor 55...

We have 2 Bobs at home and every vehicle carries a bug out box with enough to survive for 3 to 4 days out of our vehicles if needed... One thing y'all will learn about me is that I wear tin foil hats.. But I just like to call myself "prepared".

I carry a skottle and a cadac safari chef single burner. The cadacs is pretty much only used to heat water for coffee and the Skottle used for any and all cooking. I have a dodge ram 2500 with an 8 foot bed so I usually bring 2 of the 20 lb propane tanks and an adapter hose for the cooking...
