Will either of these radios do the trick? Id rather keep the price down, but could get the Yaesu if it is a requirement.
BaoFeng BF-F8HP
or
Yaesu FT-60R
If so ill order one these today.
Ok, ill pick up a Radio and I am reading this very informative thread on tacoma world about traction boards.
It seems that the verdict is that the Maxsa's are the best performance to dollar value. Im prolly going to settle on them at 139.00$ on Amazon.
Good review on boards as well on YouTube.
Sundays if I know in advance are very doable for me. Just happens that today I have some work to do for my church. Any other sunday is good. I work from home so I can basically shift days around too. If a thursday is particularly plausible and I can plan a couple days in advance, i can shift...
I think my tires are good. I do plan to do it with the group above im not that brave yet... Ill try and pickup a basic recovery kit as well so Im not the only guy at the party unprepared. Eventually ill gear up better but I just don't want to be the holdup for everyone else if i'm not...
So i am fairly novice at this type of a trip but eager to do it. I do have a few questions though.
1. Is my vehicle going to be too big (wide) for some of the runs? I saw some videos where jeeps were barely squeezing between rocks...
2. I didnt see anything that looked like my truck...
Took this drive today with the wife and baby. Thank you so much for posting the info about it. Your GPS co-ords took me right to the starting point. Couldn't be any easier to find.
Some pics of the views found along the way.
Aaaaaaaand everyone had fun.
Your shameless self promotion post earned a subscriber. =)
Not a super far trip for me. Might have to check that place out. Is there any good camping along the rout? Might be a nice trip for the family to enjoy.
Wish I could join you or lived in the area still. I could have taken you and your family out on my sailboat. Had a 25' C&C and explored all over the great south bay. I miss that boat. Looking at maps and pictures of the area just made me homesick. Had so much fun growing up on the Great...
Yea, like I said, im not sure what the rules are these days. Best bet is to take a short day trip out there, visit the park rangers station and talk with someone who knows the gig. I just would hate to see you get a ticket. Also, when you drive up to the trailhead there are a list of rules...
Make sure you find out what is required from the rangers. There is a ranger station on robert moses. They can help inform you. Just make sure it looks like your primary intention is to go fishing. They are crazy strict.
Demo is the place i was recommending. Its off Robert Moses State Park. Its pretty epic. I surfed there a lot when i was young. Its a great spot. Right on the inlet. Beautiful at night.
