The VW at the bridge across the Missouri River in Decatur, Nebraska. I love these old steel truss bridges. This one even has a steel grate deck.

Controlled burn on the prairie in Lincoln County Kansas a couple days ago. I used to live in central Kansas and saw lots of these burns in spring. Neatest was a night burn where you could see nothing but the blazing wall of fire advancing across the blackness. No camera for that though.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Glad it worked out. Had a similar experience in my old Astro van. I was waiting in the left turn lane at a stop light in some town in central Texas. When the light turned green, I pulled away and the van suddenly died in the middle of the intersection. Cranked it a couple times but it...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Did a little maintenance on the '66 VW in preparation for my trip to Kansas in a week. Adjusted the valves, filed and gapped the points, cleaned the contacts in the distributor cap, and adjusted the timing. Still need to change the oil and set up the sleeping platform and it should be good to...

Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately, the picture was taken with a 2005-ish Fuji, so I doubt it has any geolocation capabilities. That camera did take some darn good pictures though for just 4 megapixels. I used it for over 10 years. The Colorado picture was from a 2015 trip.

Broken down with a cracked distributor cap in Utah. One of the hold-down clips popped loose, the cap shifted, and the rotor smacked it. Fortunately, I carry spare ignition parts.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

The VW is out of its winter hibernation! March turned out to be a real bummer weather-wise. It snowed at least once a week with a couple of 8-9 inch accumulations. Naturally they spread tons of salt. Friday it rained really hard for a quite a while, then snowed a little bit Saturday morning...

I once drove the VW through a flooded section of road in the Connecticut River valley in early spring. It was still cold enough that the water splashed up on the windshield and flash-froze instantly so I couldn't see. I had to pull over to scrape the ice off the windshield. As I was scraping...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Yeah these cars can get through quite a lot. Mud has always been a real issue though with the all-seasons. I would have liked the all-terrains a bit smaller personally. I did find some smaller 15" A/T's online, but they were from Europe and I didn't want to deal with something that had to be...

Works for me. Nice Yamaha too by the way. Next challenge: Post a picture of your vehicle near planes, trains or other automobile artifacts. (depots, airports, dealership, etc)

1991 Volkswagen Jetta. Bought in 2000. Poor car survived 3 years of stupid teenager driving and one year of college commuting. Performed my first major repair ever on this car after I burnt out the clutch being an idiot when I was 17 and replaced it in the driveway. Donated the car to...
