As most folks I spoken to they speak of driving up to Cartwright. Me, just not feeling it. Now I have found another that does spike my interest..
Has anyone been to the Lobstick Structure? Can't break into 54°N there but a short drive you can hit 53.9°N. That has my interest as it would be...
What are your tentative dates? If you go early month, you're ahead me. We're hoping for 3rd week July. All is predicated on how much I have completed with my new build.. I figure I have 7 weeks to complete and go..
Replacing Gen 1 for longer runs, maybe completely, haven't decided. Our thoughts of travel/exploring the new setup will work well! The F150 has been mine from birth, so I may reincarnate her again. Flatbed maybe??
I'm working out details of traversing the TLH in August. I've done a bit of research into this and left with a few questions that I think others that have traversed can answer.
First comes cell service. I can locate the towers and find that LC, Churchill Falls, Happy Valley and Port Hope (and...
Another update for ya's! The Journal is HERE for the play by plays.
I have the sides to the loft paneled and about to remove and lower the camper to do the front, rear and roof easier.
Ready to meet 'Long Tall Sally' ?
Put her on the truck for fitting and some specific work. Gas fill has to be worked out, mounting brackets and I will do out-riggers this time to make removal easier. And of course... steps to get in her!
What Long Legs Sally has! 9'-8" at mid-ships...
With rains for the next few days coming, I moved the frame in the garage and forgot to shoot a pic of the front angles. Sorry, yet best from in the garage..
Have to do a major cleanup in there and takeover the whole area if I hope to get anything done over the next few days.. I like the...
I updated yesterday yet today shows promise of getting the upper loft and possible the roof in place. I have most of those pieces cut. Next update will have some pic's showing the in-life profile!
The F150 camper build worked well and lead us to doing another build off a F250 platform. I'll update more as I continue, but it has started.
I'm keeping a build log Here if you are so interested in following along or adding a suggestion or two.
I came up the Washington/Jefferson NF using the Mid Atlantic Backroad Discovery Route as my guide. It’s a mix of dirt, woods and pavement, yet quite a unique drive. Worth checking out! IMHO anyway..
I always found, even with Bull Brook open, Larry's was full and I'm typically up there on Tues/Weds... I expect the pressure there to be even greater this year.
To the OP: I'd not rely on Little Larry Rd as there's ~ 7sites. If you want showers, I heard Dolly Copp proper was going that...
Probably a typo, but ME113.. Don't know when you've been up there as of late, but last year Bull Brook FC/FS is closed. I have not seen a potential date of re-openning nor how they will. With it being cleared from logging, it makes another potential NF CG possible.
And yes, there are a few other...
Should be good on either side! I like tramside to summit & auto-road side for the 'Bowl'. My knees are past hiking there any longer so do post a pic or two!
My cousin just brought his kids up to ski Tuck's last week and had one of those few awesome days up there!
Enjoy!
Time of year? If after mud season and gates are open, then a few spots around. Closest Auto-Road side and laid back (rustic) is Barnes Field . It's a group camp with water & pit toilet. Dolly Copp has gone commercial (paved). Last time up there (2021) they said I couldn't stay because I hadn't...
What part of NY you coming out of? I'd be hard pressed not to follow the BDR through MA/VT and enter NH from the west. Follow that to the top of the state Rhubarb Pond and work the Hamster south till you need the highway to beat feet home. A lot of really good territory! The BDR goes through...
NEBDR runs into some nice sections of Maine and if you have the time, following as it returns to NH looks pretty cool. I've only run portions of this in Maine. I would thought use the Hamster exiting Northern NH as it travels the section between Pittsburg & Errol I really like !
The number one trail I recommend is the Hamster! A bit on pavement on this route, yet at least byways! I especially like the run Errol to Pittsburg! South of Errol (north out of the Jericho area) I vary from the Hampster and I haven't run that portion as of yet and if you do, please let me know...
Ya, really not that much on iOverlander. Loaded in around Moose River Plains, but not so much else where... I use several different apps to spot out what might be good. ADK is pretty locked down unless you hike or paddle.
I have two unique spots I've found and willing to trade for a few more!
