  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    180 Degree freestanding awning

That was going to be my next comment, I don't understand how they can be charging more than other companies for the same product. I wouldn't say 23Zero is the best, but they are well-known and would be the most likely to capitalize on brand recognition by charging more so for a lesser-known...

    180 Degree freestanding awning

Hate to say it, but that seems to be misrepresented by the company. It looks like a clone of the 23Zero 180-degree with different material and it clearly has the same legs strapped to the arms like the 23Zero. Same loops. Same awning arms. Overland Pros' site even says "Includes rigid...

    Suspension options

Sorry, but no. You cannot get 90-degrees of twist out of a standard ball coupler. The maximum is approximately 30-degrees, 1/3 of what you claim to have experienced. So, using your term, "this is just spin." A 1-7/8" ball will provide a little better max twist angle than a 2", but none of...

    Cheap Amazon Diesel heater recommendations?

I haven't run one of these myself, however I've heard that running them off of kerosene instead of #2 diesel avoids a lot of problems with soot build-up and pretty much gets rid of the risk of gelling in the cold. The diesel heaters have no problem running kerosene and it burns much cleaner.

    Suspension options

Perhaps some of the reason this debate/discussion is a bit contradictory is because we're either assuming how large of a trailer they want to build (they haven't said. Maybe a small 4x8, maybe a home-built tear-drop, etc) based on what we own or are simply sharing our experience and suggestions...

    Suspension options

Mechanical/ride benefits of indepdent, axle-less suspension aside, that picture is a great example of axle-less suspension clearance and a great way to visualize the impact of an axle beam greatly reducing ground clearance. Just draw a straight line between the hubs in that picture, that's how...

    OB Watches

Congrats! I still love my fenix 7, only possible complaint would be the display being too hard to see in dimly lit areas without using the backlight, which isn't a big deal and not something you'll experience with the OLED display. I'm living with my original silicone band for now, it's not...

Rear suspension battle - Ride quality while towing trailer on crappy highways, etc. Time for better matched shocks?

Yeah, I had to visualize in my head what would be changing and realized it wouldn't be changing the compression of the spring with the load of the truck on it, only lowering it and changing at what point in the strut's travel it rests at.

Rear suspension battle - Ride quality while towing trailer on crappy highways, etc. Time for better matched shocks?

Indeed, and I'm hesitant to mess with the front coilovers. The only adjustment for height is to reduce the preload and then that will make the front softer, which is already sorta-soft since the spring rate is less than the factory coils (coilovers setup for a gas Colorado/Canyon when I have a...

Rear suspension battle - Ride quality while towing trailer on crappy highways, etc. Time for better matched shocks?

Alright, probably my final update on this thread. I pulled the trailer out of the garage and took it on a test loop with some roads that I know were awful with the previous shocks, some lower speed (45MPH country roads) and some freeway speed (75MPH over some rough, chunky overpasses). I'd say...

Rear suspension battle - Ride quality while towing trailer on crappy highways, etc. Time for better matched shocks?

Ok, update time! Partial update, anyway, since I haven't testing towing yet. After an order snafu, I received the proper shocks today and put them on this evening (What should be a 15 minute job takes about an hour thanks to GM engineers and the location of the DEF tank). Due to my lift...

2010 VW Treg TDI (now 2015 SR5 4runner) build threadery

You should have an A-TRAC button, though. A locker is certainly nice to have, but A-TRAC works amazingly well on its own. Sorry to hear about the VW but glad to see you have a new platform to build out!

    Jk oil cooler assembly swap

I don't know that the pics are always representative of the exact part, and sometimes the online parts catalogs have bugs, but your local dealer should definitely be able to determine what is correct and if the newer oil cooler will work on the earlier year.

    Jk oil cooler assembly swap

The oil filter assembly with cooler shows that it applies to 2011-2017 models so there should be no problem replacing the old unit with the newer one. https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/parts/mopar-cooler-oil~68092305aa.html

    Rooftop tent question (newbie)

I did delete my reply since I saw they did address what I was commenting on (doing too many things at once this morning) so my reply was a bit useless. In any event, glad you're asking questions and doing the research. A lot of folks don't and then wonder why they have problems with weight...

    Satellite Communications Thread and/or advice?

This would be better if posted in https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/forums/overland-communications.65/ I have a Zoleo and my wife has an inReach Mini (1st gen), they provide similar functionality but go about it differently. I prefer my Zoleo due to better battery life, though the unit is...

Rear suspension battle - Ride quality while towing trailer on crappy highways, etc. Time for better matched shocks?

A lot of people really like them, my main complaint is their noise. Not sure how well they're going to wear yet, but compared to the Wildpeak A/T3W I ran previously the Wildpeaks were a better all-around tire.

Rear suspension battle - Ride quality while towing trailer on crappy highways, etc. Time for better matched shocks?

Buuuut those would add resistance, not help. Like I said, I'm not bottoming out. See. No clean, clear witness marks showing the bump stop is contacting the pad on the frame. My 265/70R17s aren't LTs and they ride well at 30-32psi even off-road. I do air down if I'm going to be traveling...

17" with 265/70R17 tires that I run between 32-35PSI most of the time.
