Hello from Washington state; driving what I got.

"Driving what I got." I like that line from your opening message to this forum. I think the line pretty well sums up the spirit of OB: you don't have to own/build/have the latest/bestest/ greatest rig to be an overlander. Looks to me like you are making it happen with what you have and having...

    Receiver Hitch Motorcycle Carrier

I've used several kinds of these for dirt bikes weighing up to 250#. They work quite well but a way to stop the slop in the receiver hitch is a must (IMO) or you will feel the hit when it moves back and forth (and it will make you feel pretty insecure about the set up.

    Tire inflator/deflator

I've tried several kinds. The kind you screw on individually for all 4 tires work pretty well but they can get knocked off your setting somewhat easily (in my experience) and most of them are somewhat of a pain to initially set up. They aren't consistently accurate either. The best system I have...

Trip to Utah (Moab area) - Trail and Campsite Recomendations Needed FAST

At word about Moab and specifically Chicken Corner (not Chicken Corners, as it is mistakenly called). I've been to Moab many times and, even though it isn't highly technical, it is one of my favorite treks when at Moab. I always include it in my outings. It is called Chicken Corner because of a...

    Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming

I don't think that will be an across-the-board closure concern. Some in the higher elevations might close but those in Southern Utah should be open. Contact the Forest Service, National Parks and BLM in the areas you plan to visit.

    Jeep XJ 2000 Build (Navajo)

Yes I do. I made a grid from metal shelving parts and fastened at ceiling and floor. This also served as a place to Velcro lash a small shovel and garden rake. The rear seat area in mine was rarely used for seating so I organized containers to hold camping gear (tent, sleeping bags, air...

    Portable Fire Pits?

Thanks for all the ideas. It is an issue whose time may have come upon us whether we like it or not. Plus, if there is not already a fire ring some something supplied by the Forest Service, I'm not starting a new one. Bring your own is probably the future of camping in many areas (or not have a...

    Jeep XJ 2000 Build (Navajo)

I'll post that rear view photo or one that may be better again so you can follow along. Starting at the top left, two 3 gal rotopax tanks, the door with the paper towel roll swings out (shown open in this photo) and I have some pull-out plastic drawers with some food items, next to that is a...

    Are tail light guards lame?

I got a chuckle out of the wife's comment about expensive black crap. We all have to admit, I think, there is a certain amount of vanity involved aside from whatever perceived and conjured-up benefit. But then, to one degree or another, vanity is what drives much of our economy ... and, the...

Why Do You Like to Camp

This is a great thread. I have enjoyed reading all of them and thinking to my self, yeah and that too, for each reply. There is a special comradery that develops as we interact about that which is very dear to us. Thanks to all of you for taking the time.

Why Do You Like to Camp

I so appreciate your post. Maybe if more people got out of the inner city craziness there could be some healing, less violence in the streets, etc. Let's call Overlanding a movement. Why not? I think it is one of the most sane movements going. I can promote it with enthusiasm. A couple stopped...
