You can find the 1440s for under 150. Anther case manufacturer that's decent and less expensive is Plano. If you're thinking two batteries, have you seen this build? He uses a large Plano storage w/ 2 55AH, but I think it may fit two 100 AH.

I think those parts would fit nicely inside a Pelican 1440, which gives you the ability to move it around.

Definitely, space in middle is also more than enough for the dog. I've only had mine for 2 seasons, light use. Still looks new.

Love my RV-4...cots make a huge difference, but it is more gear to pack. The other thing to keep in mind, most vehicles will require you pack at least the tent on a roof rack, if you're going to carry any passengers. I have a friend who's packed an RV4 in his D90, but he couldn't pack any...
The Anker Powerhouse is slightly more than the Yeti 400, but differences are significant, Anker is the better value, $ for $.

Absolutely, but only w/ SLA/AGMs, as they don't have the ICs for any other battery chemistry, e.g., Li-ion.
ISTR that Arkpaks can do both.

A large part of that is due to the nature of SLA/AGM, the deeper you discharge, the shorter their life. Li-ions are different in that deep discharge does not shorten their life, plus you have more usable charge through each cycle.
That's why upfront costs of AGM may seem attractive, but TCO of...
As someone previously mentioned, get a deep cycle AGM, (both Optima Yellow & Blue will work, but other brands are fine as well, and cheaper). Main thing is Deep Cycle, 80-100AH. Starting batteries are wrong for this application.
You can get a cheap marine battery box, then add a fused DC outlet...
Here's my homemade AGM based solar 200WH power pack in an ammo box , not enough for a fridge, but definitely for work light and recharging stuff...

3.9/4.2s can be subject to porosity issues as well, though not as much as 4.6. I've never heard of a 3.5 w/ a slipped sleeve., but my 3.9 dropped the #5 sleeve. I now watch the temp gauge like a hawk. I'm prepared to turn the heater on, then pull over if that needle ever starts to rise above...
That's more than I want to spend as well, which is why I'm looking at building my own. I had two Duracell AGMs from a UPS with a fried PCB, so they weren't being used. I've repurposed them for a 200WH powerpack, but my costs on it are about the same as a Yeti 150, though I have more capacity.
Very true, but the Yeti, and other power packs, add circuitry for managing charging, discharging, etc, in a single form-factor. With just a deep cycle AGM and inverter, you want to make sure your inverter has sufficient wattage. ISTR, most inverters will cut-off after the battery voltage drops...
So apparently Yeti is going to release a Lithium based solar generator, the 1400, but it won't be until Spring of 2017 and it's going to be about $2500! However, it does store 1400WH of energy...
LOL! I learned my lesson years ago w/ overheating Rover engines, though the BMW and Jag base motors are much less finicky than the classic Buick base V8.
Check your rad before anything else. It could probably benefit from a rodding or recore, especially if it's the original rad.

Glenn - The Yeti's come with Deep Cycle Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries and they are of the Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) variety. The reason why I want Lithium, specifically, LiFePO4, is the superior discharge/charge characteristics of Lithium over SLA.
Essentially, with SLAs, discharge is less...
LOL! I did something similar when I was 16, which is why I now check the torque a week or two later after I do it initially...

Mid 90s vintage Discos & RRCs are amazing vehicles, and can be had for <5k. However, at this price point, you need to be aware of the rust issues. If the truck has been in the SW most of its life, it shouldn't be an issue. Trucks from the NE are probably basket cases & good for parts only. Only...
RTTs are more or less fixed on your vehicle, unless you have it on a trailer, you end up raising you vehicles center of gravity, plus you lose rack space. OzTents are so easy to pack/unpack, plus the standing height and the canopy add to the advantages of an OzTent. You don't need a cot, but it...
Awesome combination! I love how the ACD/lab mutts have the floppy ears that refuse to stay up, while the markings are all ACD!
