I have never done baked beans in the canner, chili is probably the closest thing and it worked great unless you get some boil over and the lid won't seal, not sure if I got the head space wrong or just got too hot somehow. We always smoke cheese and give it to the family for Christmas with our...
Weather is starting to get cooler now and I have had numerous folks tell me that they are thinking about, or just got, a dutch oven and looking to try some recipes. I tend to go a bit more old school on my videos as I am a believer that camp cooking should be (mostly) uncomplicated and allow for...
We have canned a lot over the years and the only thing I have not had great success with was dried beans. Looks like you have the same type of Presto pressure canner that we have and I would recommend the Ball canning books for recipes as they seem very well written. I have a fishing trip booked...
I expect that no one would ever know unless you are the person who has one fail. How likely a failure is I have no idea but expect it to be pretty rare. I think the real issue is that the standard green bottles are not designed to be refilled so the engineering of the bottles doesn't support...
I try to stay very close to recommendations which absolutely limits my gear choices (that and the extra, useless weight carried in the driver's seat!). I think it is clear that a vehicle CAN be driven when very overloaded (I can attest to that) but I find that there is an impact on steering...
No experience with ST Max. But run STT PRO on the JKU and AT3 on the Raptor. I have been very satisfied with them. Both are 315/70/17. The E rated on the Raptor ride a little harder in back and did cost a bit in mileage vs. C rated oem.
One thing I always check when using the internet sites (Amazon, Walmart, EBay) is to look at who the seller is ( it is always listed) and often it will be the actual manufacturer which gives me comfort. if the seller is Joy Joy Love Sales I just keep looking.
Very hit or miss and we carry an In-Reach device when we are out and away from things. There are times where we don't have cell service but it is no big deal (some state parks for example) because there is no real risk, but other times you definitely need alternatives. Not only for contacting...
These passes are a great deal if you are out and about. We used it extensively over the last number of years and it has been very cost effective. As others have also mentioned helping the parks is a great side benefit.
I agree with Trailsoffroad.com if you are looking for information on specific trails by geography. Their descriptions and photos have been very helpful. Not competing with GAIA (or OB1/OnX) in my mind, complimentary would be a better word.
This is the type of can opener I take with me on trips. NOT these particular ones as, like a lot of things these days, I expect these to be cheap with weak gears but if you can pick up an older one they are fantastic. Easy to pack and work like a charm...
We are heading out for a while in a couple weeks. I think our kit will have the following
-Colman white gas single burner
-Firebox G2 folding wood burner as backup
-Pot for water boiling
-Carbon Steel or Banks Fry-Bake aluminum pan with lid, not sure which
-Silverware
-Coffee Cups of some sort...
I run my Airsense 10 that I power with a Bluetti EB70 and the DC cord to cut down on power consumption. One hint is to turn off the humidifier and heated hose to save power draw.
Sorry I just am reading this as we were there, however ran into an old friend so didn't get back over to the Expo on Saturday. Overall I really liked the PNW venue, it seemed more compact but at the same time less crowded than Flagstaff last year without the need to wait for a shuttle bus. Got...
I cut my eye teeth on canoe trips to Quetico and the BWCWA as well as river camping trips and have wanted a proper canoe for years. My problem is storage, which I have none so I rent when needed. We did recently pick up a couple of Kokopelli inflatable kayaks at a good price and I really look...
If you are a fan of Filson gear but are not a fan of the pricing Sierra Trading post has the Compact Rugged Twill Rod Case on their website for 41% off. Normal price on the Filson website is $425.00 (and still that price) but Sierra has them for $249.99. Still not cheap by any means but for a...
I picked up the Flame King refillable set and it works really well. When I purchased the kit there were a number of spare bottles on the shelf. Once I realized I liked it and wanted some additional tanks they were nowhere to be found-so now I wait for the resupply to show up. I prefer the DOT...
