Great build and write up. You stole that trailer, legally of course but stole it nonetheless. You’ve done a great job getting the full potential out of it.
There are some awesome Colorado trucks on here. I was just reading the build by @ Sonny Marton last night. Very impressive. I had no idea so many options are available for those trucks but your local fabricator is a wizard for sure. My FIL has a Colorado, completely stock. I'm going to have to...
I will say this, maybe some of the people posting in this thread have never been out on some of the gravel forestry roads and don't even know they exist. Maybe they've never ventured "offroad" in anything other than a 4x4 buggy. Maybe they have only done the extreme and nothing else.
I have...
Your odds of not getting into problems off-road are infinitely greater by choosing not to go out at all, 4wd or not. If YOU "always err on the side of caution," then I would assume you never go offroad. 4wd vehicles get stuck all the time. Are you telling those people not to go or to use common...
We've all seen stupid people do stupid things but the OP was not asking how to get to BFE and get stuck. He was asking some advice about trails and what his vehicle might be capable of. The person in your example likely asked no one. He probably just took off without any planning or foresight...
It seems like roads and population centers would tie together pretty well but I could be wrong. There are probably multiple ways to look at it. With the advent of satellites, cell phones, airplanes, etc. remote may not really exist in the lower 48 anymore. I'm not saying that is bad or good...
The fact that you are here asking
Well you did, you did and you did.
There are literally hundreds of miles of graded forestry roads that can be enjoyed "responsibly" in a 2wd truck. For someone who is wanting to try out some "backroading" and camping, there is no need to spend thousands of...
Ive talked to people in the States driving the Colorado and GMC versions with the 2.8 diesel and they really like them. The guys I talked to were getting 30+ mpg. My FIL has the GMC with the gas engine and he is really happy with the way it handles, etc. I don't know if anyone here has the 1.9...
I am no expert here but my thinking would be buy the biggest one that you can accommodate in your rig. IMO they are too expensive to own multiple sizes, so you might as well max your capacity in case you do longer trips. I don't think the energy draw is dramatically different between sizes.
I tint my windows and I also adhere to "if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." Maybe you can compromise and go with a lighter tint. This might also be your excuse to justify buying some light bars if you want them. "Sorry honey, you wanted window tint and now I need all these light bars to...
The HamWhisperer has great videos to prep for technician. They are free too. He actually explains things. Check them out. I don't think I missed any questions on the exam and these videos were the only thing I used to prepare.
I didn't find anything like that for general. I just memorized...
I'm hoping to make it out next year. Ouray was so great this year and on our way, that I can't imagine going to Moab without a detour in Ouray. I'm guessing you have quite a few more badges of honor heading your way after this trip.
I can see the pros for this method but I think the cons outweigh the pros given the tire options we have today. There may be some cost savings with two sets of specialized tires but it comes at the loss of valuable real estate in your garage and time to swap them out.
I used to run Tera...
I have a long list of excuses;
1. Priorities -- I have three active kids and a busy wife. None of them are that excited about overloading. I feel guilty about leaving all the responsibility to my wife or missing out on anything my kids are doing. I'm still working on them. If I can get them...
I've looked a couple different times but I don't see a badge. Im really terrible at these games. It reminds me of those pictures that were popular for a while where you had to cross your eyes or something to see the real picture. I could never see those either.
Anywho, very nice rig and I like...
I've tried the double cot with the air mattress. It is certainly better than just a cot or just an air mattress. The issue that remains though is the air mattress not maintaining air. Two air mattresses tied together somehow would probably work best. Then the person next to you may not have to...
