My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

I forgot how much I hated manually changing tires lol. I only got 2 33s when I grabbed the other set of tires to use the rims because they were super cheap. They are fairly worn but it gives me an idea of how the trailer will sit and I can start to plan out my fenders ( also why i dismounted and...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

I have a lot of holes to drill son a lot of pieces to get my drawer slides ready to mock up in place.... still needs a floor but my trailer has some tires on it that I just picked up and I have no room inside for them right now lol.i did get the upper "shape" put together and can get some more...

    Overland Trailers

This is my current setup but I am about half way through building an enclosed trailer with slide outs and independent suspension. Hoping to have it done before summer is over.

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

It's true I am spoiled with the garage lol. I never used to have one and it's nice not having to lay in dirt/mud/snow when I'm working on things ( at least while I'm home lol). I've acquired a few too many project in the last year or so and I need to sort everything out again lol.

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

Not a whole lot of progress but some layers of paint layed down, replaced a mangled grease cap on one axle, tacked my zip tie tabs in place down the "spine" so hopefully the next time I flip it over it will be the last. Also I really need a bigger garage .... I have all kinds of tools and when...

    Windshield Pics...

Driving home from the hospital after my kids surgery in white outs last week and snow is long gone today lol

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

Got the trailer out for a run around the block and it tracked great, was very quiet behind my Jeep and even as a bare structure with no weight on it ( though the base is fairly heavy itself) it wasn't bouncing all over the place like my other trailers. Got it back in the garage and stripped it...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

I wanted the axle to sit a bit further back than most because I wanted bit more tongue weight, and when the drawers slide out of the back I didn't want it to want to tip backward constantly ( I will still add some stabilizers). It also has a receiver in the back that will I can add a bit more...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

Painted the control arms and got everything mounted back up, installed the hubs and wheels and finally dropped this thing to the ground. One of the shocks has a clearance issue under load that I need to address but it's coming together finally. May be a slow process from her on getting more...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

Finally getting back around to working on the trailer some more. It's been a crazy year with the kids, work, and other projects/maintenance on things that this build got shelved for a while. I managed to get a few hours and finished welding up the control arms and got them test fit with the...

    The build so far

excellent platform. Very capable with little modification. I think 35s are a good tire size and I should have probably stayed that size on mine lol.

    Wheels spacers

I agree with this. I have had wheel spacers on 3 different vehicles over the past 10 years ( 2 daily/light trail/camping rigs and 1 dedicated trail rig) I have 1.5" wheel spacers on my TJ, 1" wheel spacers on my compass and had 1.25" wheel spacers on my patriot. The spacers on the compass and...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

unfortunately it has been sitting in my garage without being looked at in quite a while. I need to get back at it but haven't had the time. Some of the material used is heavier than others on this trailer where extra strength may be needed. the control arms are made of .188" wall square tube (...

Who here is also exploring in a small Jeep? Cherokee, Compass, Renegade? Post photos, lets see them.

I used to throw my fishing kayak up on top of the basket as long as I didn't have anything else really up there. Downside to that was my kayak was heavy and getting it up and down was a pain.

Cold Weather Camping. How do you keep Warm in single digit temps?

Usually when I'm out winter camping I have a fire going for cooking and heat. At night its usually just a cold weather sleeping bag. Usually I throw a tarp on the ground and a wool blanket under the sleeping bag. I have also made huts with a small wood stove using tree branches and tarps.

Who here is also exploring in a small Jeep? Cherokee, Compass, Renegade? Post photos, lets see them.

They are surprisingly capable out of the box. I have a 2019 compass trailhawk that I use as a daily driver/weekend warrior. The only real downside to the compass in my eyes is they lack power, and I'm used to an older vehicle so the computer driving the wheels takes a bit of getting used to...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

unfortunately I havn't touched the project in a while. between work, family, other projects and repairing things around the house, its just been sitting in my garage. I'm going to have to have another look at it soon and see what I want to do with it because my wife decided that she wanted a pop...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

Loaded the trailer up and hit the road for an extended weekend with the family. It did well on the road and through the back roads ( didn't do any offroad travel with the little ones in the car) we had to adjust some of our gear prior to leaving to make sure that all food related items could...

interesting read, unfortunate events, teaching moment

As it turns out the driver of the Bronco has a Youtube channel. I will post it here for anyone who wants to follow his side of the story. he has a few videos explaining the complications dealing with insurance, towing, and repairs ( its a write off obviously). his channel is ...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

Well everything seems to be ready for this weekend .... I am missing a pole for my awning but that's not a huge issue ( I probably won't even use it this weekend). Hopefully the weather is nice and the family can have a nice relaxing camping trip. I think we are all in need of it lol.
