Welcome to OB and to the T4R family as well. And I agree with Steve from my 3rd gen and up these rigs are very capable machines - only reason for what mods I've done to suspension was due to it's age and it was OE factory and done.
There are plenty of C range 16" LT's out there, So far I'm happy w/ the E range that I switched to 5 years ago (from C) as there are no worries when I deflate to 20-12psi on the beach/conservation lands here on island with the family and all our stuff loaded for the long day.
So far my better half is convinced she wants a Rubicon 4Dr (well that's what I pushed her towards if she's getting a Wrangler), and she wants to do nearly everything I've done w/ the T4R so far - which makes me hesitant to get my newer OME Coils and Addicted Offroad Armor lol.
But it...
lol I have that same carrier from Harbor Frieght - survived the trip from Atlanta to Nantucket and survived a trail ride here on island which it almost got me stuck (also forgot my son's stroller was on it too). I can see this working out really well too - good idea
Basically you went from a Ford Escape to a LR lol, the Discovery is a step in the right direction - being a(n) Auto Tech though Discovery's are money pits for service, only ones that I have noticed are rock solid are the Defender series, but that's how they were truely designed and why they had...
Personally my T4R has come to the aid of many Jeep's. I love both and would say if you were looking at a Rubicon Unlimited with the 4.0L then it would be a real toss up on reliability. T4R's have have the same modability as a Jeepster and then some.

Normally I...
I know I'm planning on ditching the stock T4R side-steps (as having them have prevented me from wanting to try certain trails - don't want to damage them nor the body w/out proper armor)
I was looking at Addicted Off-Road's sliders (weld-on) since knowing my luck I can see bolt-ons sheering...
Unless he were to get his hands on a LX470, the i6 in the gen he's looking at is/can be pretty stout when needed. But over-all reliability again I would lean toward the LC
My family and I live in Atlanta, GA for 8 months out of the year and on Nantucket, MA for the remaining 4 (summer), and we travel via our 2002 4Runner SR5 that has been one of the best vehicles I've had the pleasure of owning and wheeling with. I would say my experience is amateur but I love...
