Mostly travel solo. Delorme inReach keeps me connected to my wife at home ( she's unable to join me on most adventures due to injury ) as I can text her from anywhere. She also can follow my trip on a shared map link. Helps share the adventure. I also carry a very complete first-aid kit, self...
Been on a spending spree of late.... new Overland Bound edition Skottle arrived this week just in time for a camp trip on the Deschutes with customers and friends... and hopefully my Off Grid Engineering Dual Battery system will arrive in time as well. I want to keep the new Engel...
The calendar may say "spring", but we have fresh snow on the passes this morning contributing to our wonderful snow pack. The outlook for fishing this summer is great, but our early season opportunities may be limited by a phenomena unknown to many Oregon transplants, spring runoff. It looks...
Redfish in Port Orford is worth a stop for dinner. Cool gallery attached. Cape Blanco state park has some great views. Travel safe.

Headed to the east side yesterday to try and photograph Big Horn Sheep in the Deschutes canyon with my Dad. The canyon is greening up nicely with all the rain we've been getting ...
We saw over 50 sheep, but they were camping out on the top of the canyon, across the river. No good photo...
Busted... Saw your rig, but didn't see the member badge. The sun was in my eyes. :sunglasses: I was actually discussing the present state of the Pathfinder with my Dad as we headed over to the Deschutes yesterday for a little photo safari. He's a car guy, and in fact was inducted into the NW...
Anyone considering the inReach units may want to get in the habit of updating the unit before a trip to make sure there are no issues. I use that time to update instant messages making them relevant to the current trip. I can also add waypoints if needed. It does seem that every time I plug it...
Met Overland Bound member #2064 when he pulled up to the shop for a pair of new wading boots... John rolls a bad black Mercedes Sprinter Van that is a canvas in progress and there's plenty of room to paint a masterpiece. We compared rigs and fishing stories...
420 miles on Monday just to clear out the cobwebs. Ended up on the Deschutes River looking for sheep. Found this group of bachelors hanging out in the sun on the far side. They blend in very well with the basalt and dried brush if they don't move around too much.
Added a new crop camera to the collection this week with a 7d mark II. Tested it out late in the evening with my 100-400L on hummingbirds in the yard and dang that sucker is fast. Can't wait for it to stop raining here in Oregon so I can haul all this new stuff out and play. Also grabbed a mint...
Understand that completely! Texas would be hard for me to handle for more than a week. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH TEXAS!!!! ( wanted to cover myself there ) I need mountains and forests... Anyway, we would stay on Back Lake at Tall Timber Lodge each year after my wife finished her gig...
Hey Chris, I'm guessing you've spent some time on the upper Connecticut River around Pittsburg, NH. I got to poke around that part of the country while out there on business and a few vacations. I think I tracked down every fly shop in the state on one trip. I love the NE.... So, how'd you end...
Some great advice given here! @ClearwaterScott @FlyJeep @FlyRENO @cjones have hit the nail on the head. Find a local club or fly shop and take a class. Many shops have free intros, like the Orvis 101 or a something similar that will give you a basic understanding of the sport. Don't rush into...
