US Rocky Mountain Colorado and beyond

We'll be up around Pagosa Springs from the 22nd to 26th and then over by Telluride from the 26th to the 30th if you're in the area around then.

    Airing Down Without Beadlockers

Ronny Dahl (4Wheeling Australia) has a great video on tire pressure - specifically, he gives a range of pressures for different terrain types. You can see his rig behind him in the video and he doesn’t use beadlocks.

    Rendezvous in the Ozarks

How does camping work at Byrd’s? Do I need to make a reservation or is it just grab what you can when you get there?

    Recovery training and gear shakedown

i Had a steel cable winch on my Jeep for 5 years and was never in a situation where I needed it so I never used it. Now that I’ve put a synthetic line winch on my new 4Runner and I’m starting to do more stuff by myself, I figured it’d be a good idea to work with someone who really knows what...

High lift jack or exhaust jack?

There's a reason some people call highlifts "Murder Jacks"

High lift jack or exhaust jack?

Here's a video discussing the three different jack types and their uses.

    Kenwood D710GA Mounting Solutions

Ok, your signature says you have a 2018 4Runner. Take a look at the Toyota 4 Runner 5th Gen Powered Accessory Mount with Wiring Cover mount by Expedition Essentials. You can either use a ram mount to hold the head unit or (like I did) bolt the cradle directly to the mount.

Finding a balance between camping and driving.

If it were just me traveling, I'd spend the day driving and then make and break camp every day. We've done backcountry discovery routes with [semi]-set schedules (which you need if you have limited vacation time and need to be home and back at work on a specific day. My wife and boys however...

    Awning bracket adapter plates

So I have the OEM TRD Pro roof rack on my 2020 4Runner (similar to the double bar FJ Cruiser rack) and there are only a few companies making brackets and mounts that fit it. BajaRack is one of them and most of my other mounts are from them so I ordered a set of their awning brackets thinking...

    Post your recovery gear bag

They definitely have their different use cases and are both worth having in your kit.

    Radios and comms

The previous two replies were pretty much spot on. The only thing I can add is that I’m seeing a lot of clubs move ther radio requirement from CB to GMRS because of the improved quality. For instance, Jeep Jamboree has partnered with Midland Radios and starting in 2021 they’ll require all...

    Comms for your rig

I have CB, GMRS, and ham in my rig. I try to stick to the ham as much as possible but it really depends on the situation. One of the lessons-learned the local ARES group here took away from Hurricane Harvey was that all of the fanciest ham equipment in the world doesn’t help coordinate semi...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Added frame mounted recovery points from Treaty Oak Offroad to the front of my 4Runner. Is it overkill having these and points on my bumper? Possibly. Is it a belt and suspenders approach to recovery points? Yes, yes it is. Does my paranoid brain ever need to worry about whether the force of...

    Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route

And if you’re shooting for August, all of the passes should be open (they usually start opening in mid-July). We’re actually going back up to that area at the end July because we enjoyed our time in that area so much when we up there for the COBDR. The area around Buena Vista might also worth...

    Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route

We did this route a few years ago. Overall, it's great. The southern sections, in my opinion, are better the northern ones, especially the northern most section to/from the Wyoming border. If you have some extra time during your trip, I'd recommend staying a day or two around Telluride to do...

    Offroading / overlanding in Texas?

Totally agree. You see the sights in the first hour, spend the rest of the day driving around in circles, and then wind up back where you started without actually getting anywhere. OHV parks are great to practice your offroad driving skills but unless you're super into just running trails...

    Post your recovery gear bag

The Seek Adventure kid looks like he's about 12 but he puts out some great videos. Another good recovery type video of his is one going over the different use cases of D shackles vs soft shackles. I have D shackles and a winch on my front bumper, carry this bag in the back.

    4Runner Owners Registry

I'm trying to write up a build thread for my rig, but in the meantime here's my 2020 4Runner TRD Pro in Magentic Gray. Mods / additions (in order of installation): Bushwacker fender flares BajaRacks basket for the TRD Pro roof rack BajaRacks Maxtrax mounts BajaRacks ladder with Rago...

    2020 Stormcrow 4Runner Build

In January of this year I came over to the dark side and traded my 2014 Jeep Wrangler JKU in for a new 2020 4Runner TRD Pro. Building out my Jeep piecemeal had given me a really good idea on the types of mods that worked for me so I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do in this build...

For those that have done the Traverse, what’s the best time of year to do it?
