Yeah Daniel helped me out when i was planning my SD trip. I was planning to run the trails with him but we had a change in schedule.
If you're going to Badlands, definitely take the Indian Creek trail -- and camp there too!
We stopped by the campgrounds in the Pictured Rocks area to scope it out, and they were pretty crowded. This was on a holiday weekend too, on July 4th. There are state park campgrounds nearby, I didn't check but those will probably be less crowded.
Make a drive to Two Hearted River...
I unload the RTT if i dont have trips for over a month so i can park the jeep in the garage. Also about the same time i swap to a soft top so the family can enjoy some top down driving. I still keep the roof rack so it's not totally undressed for an impromptu overloading.

Unfortunately 70 series will not likely make it to the US market. The workhorse market is already well covered much like how toyota owns the rest of the soccer loving world.
I'm in the philippines on vacation and i enjoy checking out sone if the rigs here. A few Prados, LC100, 60 but your...
And road manner of a 70 series is closer to a jeep than any of the toyota offering we have here on NA. So folks clamoring on 70s yet saying all negative things on a jeep probably doesn't u derstand that 70 is much closer to a jeep or a defender than to a tacoma or 4runner, and not even close...
Standard garage 7ft and with a 2.5 aev lift, 35KO2s, and gobi stealth, i probably have 2" clearance. I was pretty light too with the soft top. I am guessing it will sag 1/2" on a hardtop. So there's a bit of room with this setup.

MOS is also planning to do a fall trip at the UP Keewenaw I think end of Sept. I'm not sure yet if i can make that one but definitely look it up. Also this is the forum website http://www.midwestoverlandsociety.org/
The price to pay in owning a classic -- just preventive maintenance :). I have a 1990 E30 which runs like a top with a little TLC so i get it haha.
I haven't made it to any of the meetings due to timing plus its way out there. I joined the group early this summer on a trail ride, gnarly, but...
this thread is great, it should be reading material for folks getting into RTT.
I do think that a lot gets caught up and just want to get the cool gear without realizing if it really works for what they do. I guess that's fine since it fills up the used market with some great deals.
No regrets. Like a lot of you, it is all about building memories for me and my family. I make certain life choices that forces these Overland dreams to reality. Coz if we don't, it is so easy to fall back into our pop-culture lifestyle. By the time we know it, our kids have moved on. I...
I can't remember the sizes, but I got 2 Small, 1 Medium, 1 Large. For my JKU, the perfect size is the Medium so I plan to retire the Large. It's also big enough that it's easy to move around. The small ones are always handy and i can easily load 3 of them on my roof rack, both size and weight.
No one answer for me.
In my neck of the woods, all the nice spots for camping are already established campgrounds, from state parks to national forests. There are county parks as well but they start looking like KOAs. Our state parks are pretty good with the campground layouts and seldom will...
The Midwest Overland Society group is planning an informal expo meet (their 3rd year) at Backus, MN on Sep 15. Here's a link to expo

I would post it here but I won't be there to attend this...
i guess it is a wash for me. The SFA is not much an issue for on road for me and I live in the state of frost heaves. In fact i find it more of an issue when off-road when trying to pretend I drive a Raptor. But you're right, the IFS will have better footing when you hit those bumps...
Are you sure you are not referring to the 4runner :). I personally think the JKU is a better all around vehicle to the FJ from my experience.
There's a lot of 'bad' samples of modified JKs. A lot of modded jeeps gear towards making it better off road (or to make it look it can go offroad using...
Mixed. In an effort to save miles. Logged 20k on a year, lots of trips early this year. I'd like to dial it down to 15k/yr.

315/70/17 KO2s c rated slapped on to my stock rubi wheels. Gone are the stock mud tires. Do KO2s make me a legit overlander?
We will see how the 4.10 gearing works.

If you're leaning towards a jeep look hard on the recon. It's got the real D44 vs the standard rubicon D44s with the smaller axle.
I'm not gonna lie the FJs are cool and want one but the jeep wins out for me as an overall family fun truck. It can be an overlander, rock crawler, cruiser...
