Do you keep a knife or hatchet/axe in your rig?

For firewood and clearing trail I carry (these are always in the truck): - Silky Big Boy folding saw - Husqvarna hatchet - Cheap pruning shears I try to find reasonable sized (3-5" diameter) logs and just buck them up with the saw for firewood. If needed I use the hatchet to split wood. Between...

    The "NEW" Nissan Pathfinder

Too bad it doesn't appear that the new one has a low range, which is disappointing. The old ones are pretty cool though...

    Bald Mountain and Brewer Lake

A few weekends ago some friends and I explored the Shaver Lake area. I had been to Courtright Reservoir and run part of the Dusy Trail before, but I had not been on any of the trails around Shaver. We were amazed at the size of the scar from the 2020 Camp Fire, and what we saw was only a small...

    Higher Fuel Prices And Overlanding

Salt is 40% sodium... perhaps he's saying that Biden and Trump overlap by the same amount and the other 60% covers the different way they go about things.

CA - Finding the eastern end of the Hungaleti Ridge Trail

The far west side of the trail (towards Lower Bear River Reservoir) has some very tight and rocky sections as well. There are a couple of tight turns between trees where it might be difficult to get your trailer through. I think the safest plan would be to enter in on Mud Lake Road, visit Mud...

CA - Finding the eastern end of the Hungaleti Ridge Trail

Thanks, glad you liked the post. Synthetic rope can still be quite dangerous and winch dampers are recommended. https://factor55.com/uncategorized/synthetic-rope-breakage/ There are parts of the trail east of Plasse Trading Post that are very rocky and there are some tight turns. If your hitch...

    Pillow Talk

My wife and I use Therm-a-Rest travel pillows. They don't compress down all that small, but are comfortable and hold up well.

What's your general purpose cleaner you bring on trips?

For hands and dishes we use Campsuds + universal solvent (water). For wiping down food preparation surfaces I carry some disinfecting wipes. For wiping grime off the kid's face and hands in the car I use a pack of wet wipes.

Tire Pressure Gauge - Which One is Accurate?

I ran into a similar problem a while ago where all of my gauges read different values, which led to a bit of a rabbit hole learning about ASME gauge grading. The tl;dr version is that there are two main grades: - Grade 1A is +/- 1% across the scale - Grade B is ±3-2-3% depending on if you are...

    Plano box kitchen and inventory

@Road , that's a great find! I like that they are flat and should pack easily, everything I've looked at so far has been too large. I'm going to do some measurements and see if anything fits my pots, and I have a trip planned for next month where we are making pasta so I'll be able to test it out.

Simple Mistake, and hopefully some good advice.

It's possible that the front drivers tire was unweighted and spinning as well. That could happen if the truck was balanced between the front passenger and rear driver tires.

Simple Mistake, and hopefully some good advice.

A taller bumpstop would limit your up travel, and help keep the tire out of the fender. That said, ideally your tire would be able to "stuff" into the fender but with your wider rear axle that may not be possible.
