I know it doesn't matter what I drive...

It doesn't matter what you drive! The goal it to get out and explore. My family and I did 3500 miles this summer in our Mini Countryman. Much of it on country roads both paved and not. Spent less than 400 of it on Interstate. Did 5 states, 6 Mountain Ranges, spent time above 10,000 ft, visited 3...

My DIY rear tire/fuel carrier using stock bumper

Don't get me wrong, it is a very cool setup. I am just curious at the cost comparison for personal reference as my DIY jobs usually end up costing about the same but then I am not a very good DIY'er.

    Budget Built Tacoma Overland Rig

This is a great example of sustainability and proving that you don't need to break the bank. So often we try to look cool by having the latest name brand or newest gadget and this is proof that it is not needed. Other peoples trash are some peoples treasures. I love the ingenuity and...

HiLift jack: is it really needed?

It is better to be safe than sorry. I agree with @Bandit , when you need it you need it and if you don't have it you are up a creek. Get a good mount kit out of the way from other necessities.

    Air Lockers

Cameron, First off welcome to OB! Here are a couple of references. Basically Air lockers provide automatic locking to a differential which locks the wheels ensuring you get the traction you need. Some may think that 4x4 means that you have traction at all four wheels. This is not the case...

The General Enthusiasts' 2017 Tundra TRD Pro

I completely agree and the reason I keep my Ranger, also the fact that it is paid for. I do like the narrower footprint as well. My Ranger is a bit small and I would like a full second row seat given I have kids and dogs and such.

That is very nice but I have to ask. How far off the ground it that tent and how do you get the dog up there?
