After about 10 months with the softopper I found a color-matched LEER topper with a carpeted interior and pop out windows. During the time I had the Softopper I had only folded it down once and knew I wanted a more permanent solution.
The next thing to get installed was a CB Radio, I have had CB radios in two previous vehicles my 99 XJ, and a 2006 Xterra. I gathered the materials and did my best to achieve a clean install.
Here are the highlights:

The stock BFGoodrich Rugged Trail tires that come stock on the Tacoma TRD Off Road were terrible and I wanted to replace them as early as I could. I replaced them with the Cooper AT3 based on this review on Expedition Portal :

Not Long after I got the truck I purchased a Softopper for the truck. At the time I did not want to commit to hard bed cap because I was afraid to lose a lot of functionality. The softopper was easy to install, remove, or collapse if needed. It fits very tight and did not flap at all at highway...
I bought my truck new on 30 APR 2013. Growing up my father always had trucks and I always wanted one, but it wasn't right for my family until 2013 because we had a minivan as the family vehicle.

I don't have any yet, but Maxtrax are on the list to buy and when I get them they will be Orange, I'd hate to lose a set in nasty mud because I thought it would be clever to get OD Green or similar color.
I have had CB, GMRS, and eventually HAM. Save yourself the iterative process and just get a HAM license, its not that hard, truly. I used the no nonsense study guide and the Icom flash card app. I started studying one week before the exam and had no issue.

I am currently 10 months into a 24 month separation from my truck. When I get back to the US I am hoping to take a trip to Our for FJ Summit in 2021. In the meantime I am planning a trip to Australia in rented Land Cruisers. In fact I was supposed to be completing the trip today and flying back...
I like Quickfists as well, but your shovel looks pretty small for recovery duty. I'm not sure you could reach to the center of the vehicle if you were high centered, just a thought.
With the right tool it can be used to make hose clamps. It can also be used temporarily in place of a Cotter pin, also its useful to hold this out of the way while making repairs.
