    Downloadable bumper plans

It's a bumper in a box! I was hoping to start it today, but I helped a buddy put a lift on his Colorado and it took longer than expected. I'm also running a little low on welding wire, I went to 3 stores and couldn't find any. Ordered some on Amazon, waiting for it to come. @MarkW I can barely...

    72h Bag - Go/Deploy kit

I've never been a fan of there breakfast stuff. I just go with oatmeal. I want for a hike yesterday in the rain. My supposedly waterproof pack turned out to be not so waterproof and the contents of the 48hr bag got soaked, but at least that gave me a reason to lay it all out and take a picture...

    General Grabbers's

I've seen them and they look like a great mud and rock tire. I think they might not be that great in the snow though.

2001 Jeep XJ build (Blue Steel)

It's so.... Stock. I'm sure you have plans to fix that though. Stock is the way to go with buying a rig though, that way you don't have to fix someone else's shoddy work.

    What is your dream rig?

I saw a bunch of built Patrols in New Zealand, I didn't even know they existed until then. Really cool. Didn't @administrator drive one on his last trip down under?

    Rigs parking next to rigs

Anyone ever see a stock version of their rig and park next to it just so you can compare how much cooler yours is now? Or is that just me....

How do you spend your "down" time on the trail?

You're pretty talented! I don't have down time, I have kids. I remember downtime though, I used to practice firecraft and drink beer.

    Search & Rescue

I had to do those FEMA courses, they suck. They're all about interagency cooperation and the national response infrastructure. Nothing useful to the grunt on the ground. If you get involved in the planning on operational control aspect of SAR they could be useful I guess. Our SAR sheriffs deputy...

    72h Bag - Go/Deploy kit

I agree with the shemag, they are so versatile, have so many uses.

Picked up the steel for my bumper. CNC plasma tables sure make nice clean cuts! Now I just need the time to weld it together.... @MarkW the wire that came with my welder was complete crap. I've used Lincoln wore from Home Depot and Forney wire from my local hardware store. My welds improved...

I'm still learning too, I've been welding scrap then grinding down the weld to see how solid it is. My biggest problem is moving the gun too fast.

Went and ordered the steel today. $250 for it all cut on a CNC plasma table. I can pick up tomorrow and start welding! I'm pretty stoked! The metal supply store I went to was impressed with the flatland 4x4 plans, they were able to load the cad files right into the plasma cutter with no extra...

That's what I get for not looking before I type. Well played @stringtwelve!

Who thinks they should bring back the Camel Trophy event?

We just need a bunch of sponsors and we've got this!

Who thinks they should bring back the Camel Trophy event?

I think we're on to something here, a stock overland challenge, and real stock, not like the stock in the nascar acronym. Maybe just allow bolt suspension and armor upgrades, maybe 10% increase on stock tire size? Change the location its held to vary the terrain and conditions?

What’s the difference between ‘4-wheel drive’ and ‘all-wheel drive?’

I love my Quadra-Drive, but the Eaton mechanical locker in my Colorado was pretty great too. Pair that with the electronic front locker in Hummer H3's and I think you'd have some stiff competition. I do wish my Quadra-Drive had a 2wd option. I'm averaging 14mpg, rarely do I beat 18mpg on the...

    That's great! I'm stealing it.

    72h Bag - Go/Deploy kit

@WUzombies i like you stripped down MRE idea. I've never thought about removing all the excess crap. I can't agree with you more on Training being the most important piece of any first aid kit. CPR Masks are a great addition. I assumed this was more of a personal use kit than something to be...

    Search & Rescue

It's cool man! I'm with Snohomish County, I've responded to King, but never to Pierce. We have had some guys from Skagit come down to help us, I don't think anyone from Pierce though.

    Search & Rescue

I volunteer with my sheriff departments search and rescue. We require a minimum gear list of mostly good, quality hiking gear with a few extras thrown in. For training there is a 2 day academy held over a weekend for most basic qualifications although you have to get some medical stuff separately...
