    OsmAnd and iOverlander

So, I've added minimal information on how to use the tool, but you still need to able to run Golang and be comfortable on the commandline. https://github.com/cug/wp_converter This is super simple, has no input validation, no tests and might not even work with the lastest versions of the CSV...

    OsmAnd and iOverlander

I’m currently on a trip, but in the next few days I can make the GitHub repo public. Be aware: no tests of code or data integrity. This is a quick and dirty hack.

Small 110 volt Toaster Oven Do you use one?

It’s pulling around 10A. So, the higher the voltage you supply, the hotter it gets. Up to a point of course. Ours does about 132W.

Most Expensive Thing That You Have Broken

There is always a chance … I nearly broke something more expensive. Was working at one of the large tech companies as a server engineer at the time and luckily avoided a full scale outage that would have cost in the millions per minute … luckily it was caught just before it went out, because it...

    induction cooking?

Oh, and the other good thing: You now have enough power to do other things as well. We boil water with an electric kettle, use a 12V heater fan to warm the water and battery compartments when there is a chance of freezing temperatures, indoor and outdoor lighting etc. Also, charging eletronics...

    induction cooking?

I'm using induction cooking and I'm never going back. But, and that's a big but for some folks, there are certain circumstances that make induction cooking perfectly viable: We run two 100Ah batteries and a 2000W inverter that can easily support the needed power for an 1800W induction plate...

    How Bad Are American Vehicles

Interesting way of “driving” the PanAm.

    How Bad Are American Vehicles

I would avoid any American truck except the Ford Ranger if you’re going outside of the US with it. But that might just be me, who doesn’t want to either look like a rich American or a drug dealer in other countries. At least get something old and beat up looking if it has to be such a big truck...

    How Bad Are American Vehicles

And make sure you can get a carnet de passage if the vehicle is registered to an LLC. And be aware that a Carnet in the US is about $2k, 8 to 10x the usual price in the world.

    How Bad Are American Vehicles

From personal experience I can only say that American vehicles are large and low quality. Even the Toyotas are worse than what you get in the rest of the world. For the trip, I can only recommend getting a van that is open front to rear. Truck camping with the front/rear hard split is annoying...

12 volt lunch box oven - Recipies and how do you like it or not?

Get the Kickass version: https://kickassproducts.com/products/kickass-12v-130w-portable-travel-oven Available in the US and has some advantages (e.g. an insulated door). Works great for us: We use it mainly to warm up leftovers. I generally cook enough for two meals and during the next day...

Goal: simple day to day life, small(ish), offroad capable – a Jeep Gladiator build

A quick recap of stuff that works, and stuff that doesn't. Not a comprehensive list, just some thoughts that come to mind. What works: RV like interior: friggin awesome to have in bad weather or with tons of mosquitos around; the seating and the tables have been incredible for time in the...

    OsmAnd and iOverlander

We've been using this combination (OsmAnd app and imported iOverlander data) on a trip now for three weeks and it has been working reasonably well. Sure, there are some bugs in OsmAnd that are annoying and the user interface is rather ... ugly ... hmmm, I can think of more words, but I'll keep...

FOR SALE Camp Cook Gear – Pots, Stoves

It’s never been used. It’s too heavy for us for hiking and too small/impractical for car camping. Great as a backup though as it uses naturally available fuel. We use the small one often with a Trangia insert for coffee.

And just in case, if you see this: That's us ... Had some stickers made. ;-) The website will get better over the next few weeks if/when I have some time and quiet to work on it. Most of the build stuff will also be there, along with tips and tricks and pitfalls to avoid.
