US West Tri-Valley Monthly Meet Up- Pleasanton CA

I think I would like a look at how that works. My 4Runner has 3 12 v outlets, and I added a 4th with beefy wiring to carry the load on in inverter (I know, inverters aren't efficient) so I could charge my Bluetti 2400 that needs at least 16 volts input. I also have Jackery 1000 to run my...

I may not make it, but I have a question. I find the 12 v plugs will disconnect with bumpy roads. Are there mods that keep them running more reliably? How would you get an Anderson plug to replace a 12 v socket?

Using traction boards to get over a boulder. As soon as the weight of the truck was on top of that rock it crumbled to bits. Benefits of a full size truck?

US West Fort Bragg Sherwood Road?

Etsuno - I just got back from camping on the Mendocino coast. I expect you found a space at Usal, as I screwed up my camp bookings and it still worked out. I am booked to explore the Lost Coast with Overland Trail Guides in May. I am new to off road so that should be a good trip. For this last...

    US West Alabama hills campsites

Interesting. I was thinking of stopping in for a night, maybe two, during the week while on my way to the Mojave event on April 23-25.

US West Fort Bragg Sherwood Road?

Mendocino county website says the Fort Bragg Sherwood road was closed November 15 2020. Is there a work around on this? I ask, as I am just getting started and went to Usal Beach last week and fell in love. I just spent 3 days at the beach - it is good to be retired. I also need some time just...

Fabrication/Welding Shop in greater SF Bay Area?

Mike at Shaffers is a member of Overland Bound. Located in Alameda in the shipyard. 4wheel Drive Shop | Alameda California | Shaffer's Offroad He is really busy, and heading to Baja very soon until early May. But call and talk to him. He has put suspension and bumpers with winch onto my 4Runner...

Hollister Hills would suit me just fine - I would like someone spotting me so I get a feel for picking a line without my truck doing too much feeling in the wrong places. How many rigs can camp there? It would be easy enough for me to drive down from Oakland on the day.

I have a brand new winch, but I read you should unspool the rope and then wind it in under a little tension before you use it, and that you leave some number of winds on the spool before you apply load. I hope we get to talk about stuff like this - it is all new for me. See you all Sunday!

US West Mormon Emigrant Trail Snow Day *if there’s snow!

I already need to cancel. I signed up, went to add it to the calendar and it is the day after my 2nd flu shot. The first shot left me feeling "off" so it is more than likely the 2nd will not have me in any mood to bang around in the cold. Bummer as I have all this new gear - winch, ropes...

FWIW I was by that parking lot a couple days ago, midweek, and there were a lot of cars. Now it is the weekend. I could easily see the lot being filled up, and trying to get a meet in there being a bit invasive for people showing up to hike.

Attaching a Roofnest Falcon to a Front Runner slimline

I see Front Runner offers short and tall brackets to mount roof top tents. The tall allows clearance for adding other gear like awnings, shovels, etc on the side per FR website. I have a line on a used regular Roofnest Falcon, and I am trying to figure the best way to mount it. I have asked...

    Front hitch?

I did find this YT that has a front hitch for a removable winch - not what I was looking for, but the hitch would work fine. Look - I am utterly new to 4x4. I am not looking to rock crawl with this - it is about getting out of tight spaces. A front hitch would also allow you to negotiate...

I don't have a tire repair kit, but maybe I could bring an old tire? Housemate bought a car with a spare that needs a new tire. It holds air, so it could be a useful "patient" to practice on.
