Ford Maverick and the small overlanding pickup truck

I agree with this. I've considered buying a relatively new pickup but I'm so used to using my old and smaller one that I don't think I could handle a "big" one. I camp with several guys with F150s, Silverados, etc. and they always seem to be getting up and into the beds to get their stuff...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

I'm currently building a square back trailer. My plans amount to notes, sketches and thoughts in my head. It's amazing how many things change once you get the point of actually putting them together. I've always kept a box of what I call "fab scraps". I cut 6" lengths of pretty much...

Expedition to Kitsault and Alice Arm

    What a great trip!

Xj vs Zj vs 4 Runner

Minor thing but the term AMC used when XJs came out in 1984 was "uni-frame". They probably thought that made it sound stronger.

Show me a Road Sign.....really any sign...

Since the early 1980s, every Friday the 13th, regardless of the month of the year, Port Dover, Ontario which is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario hosts a motorcycle event. It's a single day event and draws about 150,000 people. The population of the Town is just over 6,000, one of...

    Homemade expedition trailer

I'm going through the same process. After finishing my expedition trailer I started a square back trailer build, also 5x8. I used Drifter Trailers for a lot of my design cues. I'm still using my expedition trailer but if all goes well this will be its last year. Good luck with your new...

    Camping Rake

I found a light duty rake I liked at Home Depot but it came with a wooden handle that was too long and difficult to store away. I replaced it with a folding handle from a snow brush. This thing is surprisingly handy.

    Wheels spacers

This is pretty much the way I see it too. I tried 1" spacers on my Jeep LJ for a couple of months. I didn't have any problems with them but, right or wrong, I couldn't get them out of my mind while driving so I removed them. I've had 2" spacers on 2 trailers for years and have haven't had...

    Axe and Shovel mounts

I use bike looks too. I'm less concerned about theft while camping than I am about coming out of a store (for example) and seeing some whacko kid or nut bar hacking up my stuff ... or worse. It's hard to see in this pic but I made a wire cable with loops that goes through the shovel handle so...
