My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

I'm currently building a square back trailer. My plans amount to notes, sketches and thoughts in my head. It's amazing how many things change once you get the point of actually putting them together. I've always kept a box of what I call "fab scraps". I cut 6" lengths of pretty much...

Expedition to Kitsault and Alice Arm

    What a great trip!

Xj vs Zj vs 4 Runner

Minor thing but the term AMC used when XJs came out in 1984 was "uni-frame". They probably thought that made it sound stronger.

Show me a Road Sign.....really any sign...

Since the early 1980s, every Friday the 13th, regardless of the month of the year, Port Dover, Ontario which is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario hosts a motorcycle event. It's a single day event and draws about 150,000 people. The population of the Town is just over 6,000, one of...

    Homemade expedition trailer

I'm going through the same process. After finishing my expedition trailer I started a square back trailer build, also 5x8. I used Drifter Trailers for a lot of my design cues. I'm still using my expedition trailer but if all goes well this will be its last year. Good luck with your new...

    Camping Rake

I found a light duty rake I liked at Home Depot but it came with a wooden handle that was too long and difficult to store away. I replaced it with a folding handle from a snow brush. This thing is surprisingly handy.

    Wheels spacers

This is pretty much the way I see it too. I tried 1" spacers on my Jeep LJ for a couple of months. I didn't have any problems with them but, right or wrong, I couldn't get them out of my mind while driving so I removed them. I've had 2" spacers on 2 trailers for years and have haven't had...

    Axe and Shovel mounts

I use bike looks too. I'm less concerned about theft while camping than I am about coming out of a store (for example) and seeing some whacko kid or nut bar hacking up my stuff ... or worse. It's hard to see in this pic but I made a wire cable with loops that goes through the shovel handle so...

    Let's talk seats

I've replaced worn out seats in 3 Jeeps (XJ, TJ & LJ) with Hyundai Tiburon seats. In each case I wanted seats that fold forward so ones from a 2 dr. car worked well. You can usually get these at a junk yard for about $40 ea. I put DORMAN seat heater kits into 2 sets and it's a pretty...

    Joined the Bandwagon

I have a few options that include a tear drop trailer and an off road trailer with a RTT but I've camped several times in the back my Jeep XJ and really enjoy it. I use it for various things and have resisted making a sleep platform. Mine is a 2 dr. which makes it easy to dive in head first...

Who here is also exploring in a small Jeep? Cherokee, Compass, Renegade? Post photos, lets see them.

Love it! A few days ago I posted some pics on a Facebook group of various cars I raced with 50 years ago (Canadian Off Road Racing Association seasons 1973 & 74). I was in the single seater class but several were of bugs. Yours reminds me of one of them.

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

Well said. I'm old enough to have voted for Trudeau Sr. but that's the last thing I would have ever done. He was as an arrogant narcissist too but at least he was intelligent. Trudeau Jr. ... not even close. I don't know what our American friends know about him but his place on the...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

As far as I know there hasn't been any gun fire at any of the protest here. There has been by cowards who have shot up a few buildings away from the protests. My guess is that some are carrying knives.

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

I'm also 71 and most of my camping is with my wife and about half of what we do is with our tear drop club at Provincial Parks. They're convenient and are a good base for trips out to kayak, bike and/or hike. No one I know feels the need to be armed and besides, it's illegal. I camp on my...
