No offense to the people from Nevada but I really hate the drive across NV to get to ID, UT, and CO.
From Sparks to Wendover just makes me want to fall asleep at the wheel.
Grizzlies are an animal I'm not familiar with but the black bear in dispersed areas are easy to scare. They run as far and fast as they can if you yell at them, in my experience. Black bear are only a major problem in developed campgrounds and mountain towns where they're used to seeing a lot of...
IMO take those off and toss them in the trash. I'd frequently get rocks stuck between the shield and the rotor, causing some really bad sounds... until I disposed of them.
If you're using synthetic winch line, those heavy snatch blocks are made for steel cable and not ideal for synthetic line.
These are just a few bucks more than a snatch block and weigh a lot less.
Aluminum in a real rough environment becomes a wear item also.. It will with stand some hits but they dent and get damaged with repeated abuse.
My next vehicle I'll probably do it anyways, just to be weight conscious in some areas. For me at least, the bumpers and winch are non-negotiable. We...
So you no longer have a bumper or a winch? I guess that's a decision you made to limit yourself on places that you can camp. I wouldn't consider bumpers part of the recovery equipment since that's trail armor, IMO. It's non-negotiable for where I go.
Here I am, questioning whether I should...
That's crazy, I'm not sure how you managed to get to 400lbs from rope and aluminum pulleys. My entire recovery kit including straps, 4 pulleys, soft shackles, and a 30 ft freedom rope weighs in at 52.8 lbs... It all fits between 2 bags that are strapped to my roll bars in the jeep.
I don't...
Yeah all that old stuff is really heavy. Steel cables weigh around 30 lbs and so does the snatch block. Thankfully now, we're using rope and milled billet aluminum pulleys which weigh a fraction of what that old stuff did.
Because sometimes you wake up and it snowed when you thought it was raining. I've been in that situation in WY.
I've also been in the situation where you can't see that the ground is rutted or washed out under the snow.
...or the snow conditions change from corner to corner. One section of...
Some people enjoy fall and winter adventures in mountainous regions. There's nothing more peaceful than the dead silence of a snow covered campsite, as the snow acts as nature's sound deadening.
Besides, that's only a couple more small straps and rings than any basic kit should already...
Over discharging is probably the #1 thing to kill a battery... and no reason to put unnecessary charge cycles on the power station. Just turn off the power station and plug your refrigerator into the extension cord. Switch it to MAX mode and pre-cool everything on AC power.
Normally, I pull the fridge out of the jeep and plug it into the wall in my garage. My IceCo VL45 runs 24/7/365 between the jeep and my garage.
If I'm going out again soon, OR I'm packing a day or two early before going out, I run an extension chord to the back of the jeep (jeep is backed up to...
