    Overland Expo Military Discount

Just throwing this out there: I have a friend who is wholeheartedly against accepting military discounts because he feels he doesn't deserve them. I offered up a similar idea, that he should accept them, and then put the savings towards whatever charity means the most to him.

I'm all for that, but that's where showing one's valid ID card or DD214 should be sufficient.

    Overland Expo Military Discount

Anyone know why they want so much information on the military discount form? Wanting to be able to verify someone's service status/eligibility is one thing, but I'm not sure why they need to know what base you're stationed at and who your supervisor is. If anyone has any information on this...

    Friday Night HAM Radio NET

I'd be more inclined to participate if it was on a YSF room or DMR talk group. No real echolink repeater options near me, but I do have a hotspot. I'm also not a huge fan of how the notes that were posted each week included where each participant was located. Some might think it weird, but I...

    Upgrade?

Oh, well that's good to know!

    Upgrade?

I was trying to find a thread on this topic for the longest time... I became a member before COVID, when it was the one time $20 fee for lifetime membership. When I saw this new "Adventure Tier" thing pop up, it looked like I was grandfathered in to the new features, but as of today it looks...

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

I had an experience like that once, but the other way around. A trucker gave me a tip on how to use back roads to divert around a huge traffic jam just south of the Cincinnati area a few years ago. It was awesome! There ended up being a handful of us that took that route. It probably saved us 2...

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

That's actually a great idea. I was just thinking about hardwiring my GMRS radio, but didn't want to run more wires through the firewall. I may end up clipping them on the CB and the GMRS and adding powerpoles so I can easily swap them out off the same wires. If you like that Cobra CB with...

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

I agree. I used to always have the CB on for potential traffic updates/getting advance notification of backups, etc., but I often found myself driving with my wife or my mom and due to the language having to turn it down to a point where it's not even useful to have it on anymore. With my...

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

I have a 2' firestik as well as a 5' one. I'll have to give them a try. For serious attempts at HF I have the chameleon MPAS. I haven't spent a lot of time using it as I'm relatively new to HF, but I like it so far!

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

That would be cool... But I'm not sure it's practical for my daily driver

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

I might have to give that a try one of these weekends when nothing else is going on! Sounds like a fun experiment.

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

A CB is worth it for the Dalton. I used to live up there. The milepost is also vital for the drive to Alaska. Let me know if you have any other questions related to Alaska!

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

Awesome! Yeah I have a Yaesu FT-891 and an MFJ tuner that has about the same footprint. It's pretty portable, which was what I was after. I wanted to have a "go-kit"/"field kit" that I could bring on trips. Intent was just one more added layer of emergency comms should an emergency arise.

Ditch the CB entirely or stow it?

Even with an external antenna tuner?
