Waitaminute, are you suggesting not paying the overland tax?
Sometimes you don’t need to reinvent the wheel! Fishing guys have been using battery boxes for a long time, and they get absolutely thrashed on. They are great alternatives for basic boxes. Bring along a little cig outlet inverter...
Well, the likely easiest setup would be just buying a Minnkota trolling motor battery box and sticking a cheap 100amp hour flooded or AGM battery in there. Then, buy yourself a 100 watt folding solar panel +charge controller kit off Amazon and you have yourself a simple yet effective charging...
Battery brand? If you’re on a budget a cheap agm can be found online for around $100-150 dollars. That would be sealed. Otherwise I don’t have any strong recommendations.
Easiest way would be just to run wire from your starting battery to the auxiliary battery with a Voltage Sensing Relay in between so that you never accidentally drain your starting battery. This setup works well for charging an auxiliary starter type battery or a marine starter/deep cycle. Does...
I do realize what AGM is, yes. I was simply poking fun at your logic equation. You equated that because your battery mount failed that all flooded lead acid batteries are basically bad. They all have their pros and cons. If I was part of offroad team AGM would be the way to go, agreed. Otherwise...
Totally logical. That's why I switched from a fiberglass camper shell to an aluminum one. I didn't secure my fiberglass camper shell well enough and it flew off and broke. Stupid fiberglass. The next time it flies off it will be aluminum and will hold up much better.
Personally I haven’t ever found that the high end starter batteries for 2-3x the price have ever offered near the equivalent performance upgrade.
Great testers like Project Farm and also places like consumer reports have consistently found that basic brands like EverStart outperform or have...
For a second on my phone screen all I could see was the Jeep “Trail rated” badge and I started laughing.
Then I saw the OB badge and it made more sense. :)
Bilstein and Old Man Emu are probably the two most well known options that will give you decent performance and good durability at an affordable price for their more entry level offerings. Unless you're doing lots of long distance high speed corrugations they should work fine.
Yeah I agree with Konza, if you have a decent solar charge controller it should sense that your battery is at 14 volts (just throwing out a possible alternator voltage) and not try and charge it. This is the setup for many people. A more efficient setup would be something like a DC-DC charge...
This time of year I would jet up to the Payson area and hit the Mogollon Rim. Probably a 1.5 hour drive, maybe a little more. Literally no end to beautiful remote dispersed camping spots, meadows, creeks, exc to explore.
I am not as familiar with stuff directly around the Phx area as I live...
Yes.
Personally I prefer the camera in the mirror, but the backup camera is the only thing I upgraded in my bare bones Nissan Frontier. So nice for towing and hooking up the trailer. Also nice for not accidentally backing over toys and little people.
I like it because the people are nice. Let's be honest, the vast majority of us are weekend warriors who like gadgets, and like tinkering with our rigs because that gets us more stoked for the next family trip. Most of us aren't going on 3 month long expeditions or around the world travel...
