I was a member of the overland fb group. I did see that something had changed with the group recently but I don't recall their ever being many posts in there tbh. although it may have died down during the covid fiasco and now dropped off my FB algos

    Roll Call....Australia ?

G'day Steve! It's been a few years since I've visited this site I must have a nose around. Do you have much planned for the easter break? I'll be camping up near Newcastle NSW. Hopefullythe foreacst changes to sun!

    Venting heat from rear tub

TBH the external sunshade did a pretty decent job. I ended up building a storage rack which sat about 200mm above the tub cover. I was able to fit the sunshade to the bottom of the rack and that helped keep the direct heat off. More so if the rack was loaded with equipment (Photo of rack...

    Whiskey/Wine bottle travel cases

I've got a sturdy 6 pack cardboard box that an old wine order came in (with bottle supports) with the addition of using these neoprene socks. Never had any breakages.

    Ford Ranger custom tub rack

Having fitted out the rear of my ranger with a drawer and fridge system I was finding it difficult to be able to use it for carrying any large stuff in the back and for long offroad trips, cramming chairs , gazebo, tables and such in the back ended up being a game of tetris. The ones you could...

    Venting heat from rear tub

Hey mate, I tried the fan solution and whilst it did help circulate air inside the tub (for the benefit of the compressor) it didn't lower the top of the fridge being too hot to touch from the sun heating through the tonneau cover. Compared to just leaving the flaps open, I don't think it...

    Overloading your rig

It's as good as an off-the shelf product here in Australia once the engineers have done the initial testing for the product. I don't know the particulars of that test but I imagine it involves breaking and swerving tests and the like. Their is no doubt a large sum of money involved in the...

    Overloading your rig

My rig with all the permanent add-ons and loaded for a trip (including passengers) sits just over the factory GVM (3,200kg). I had the GVM increased to 3,500kg through upgraded suspension and engineers certificate. The vehicle power struggled with the weight until I had the engine tuned. Car...

2017 3.2ltr Ford Ranger Dual Cab XLT

Decided to tidy up the centre console a little. Since I don't use the 12v cigarette socket, I swapped the remaining one over to a UHF connector. This looks a lot neater than the switch panel I had it previously sitting in. I also decided I didn't like the rocker switches so changed them...

I never noticed that I'd put V6. My other car is a 3ltr V6 so probably why I made the mistake. Will see if I can edit the title.

To Chainsaw or not to Chainsaw, that is the question

I carry a folding handsaw, an axe and a battery chainsaw. If something is blocking an access track I'll clear it. You never know when an emergency service may need to use it and the time I spend is time saved for them.

What piece of gear made the biggest improvement to your experience?

A fridge, without a doubt. (and the battery/solar system required to keep it going nearly indefinitely)

2017 3.2ltr Ford Ranger Dual Cab XLT

I had been getting a lot of vibration when driving. turns out 2 wheels were buckled and 2 tyres where flat spotted. Which mean 4x new tyres (and 2 wheels). Decided to use this as an opportunity to go larger. so went from 265 31" to 285 33". Decided to go with alloys instead of steels...

I also installed a mobile phone booster/repeater last weekend which gives a 100dB boost to the signal. 1 bar 4G LTE will boost to full bars. As long as their is a signal, it can boost it. It will boost 3G, 4G and 4GX. I've not had chance to try the range out in the sticks yet, but in areas...
