Thomas, welcome to Overland Bound! Lots of information on both Tacoma and Wrangler on the forums here. Both are really good capable vehicles, definitely find a way to take a test drive in the vehicles you are interested in, that can help rule them in or out in a hurry. Which one to choose in my opinion comes down to deciding what you want to do with the rig. Don' t get caught up in everyone's opinion of which is better, which usually ends up in a my brands better than your brand contest .. lol. Read some reviews on the vehicles you are interested in, take a look at photos members on here have posted with how they have built out their rigs, and ask any specific questions you may have. Lots of great people on here with all kinds of experience they are willing to share. Which ever rig you choose, you will be able to get out and explore, creating some great memories which is what its all about.

Hello Tommy, welcome to Overland Bound.
I am not able to speak directly to either vehicle, I have a 4Runner, my reason for my choice is I am terrible at turning a wrench, I don’t enjoy it and wanted reliability longevity and durability above all else. Toyota was my first choice for that reason.

Good question. I went with a Tacoma because it’s capable and I can bring stuff with me. Jeep Rubicons are probably a little more capable stock than an off road model Tacoma, but either will work well. I just know a lot of Jeep owners can usually only run 1 or 2 people and if you have kids it gets tight quick. I love my Tacoma because it drives GREAT on the highway as well and if you have 5-6 hours to get to the trail then that makes a big difference. Hi, Colin here!
Location: Western Wisconsin
Rig: 2020 Jeep Gladiator Sport
Experience: Brand new to overlanding. Just got my first jeep (named it Walter as in Walter White from Breaking Bad. If you haven't guessed, it's bright white). I am looking forward to being able to take it out on our first trip.
Hello Colin, welcome to the OB family.
