A good day scouting trails behind the ranch. A clear and sunny sky was very welcome! Went up on a plateau and set up for lunch. Showed some of our great friends one of our favorite spots. They had a pretty great looking MRE...and we made some hot soup and tried our first dehydrated meal (chicken and mashed potatoes) which was really good! A campspot along the way has a small reservoir next to it and was frozen over. While playing on that we spotted something moving in the ice...was it a fish? Nope! A salamander was in between layers of ice! He looked fine we think? A good and safe place to hibernate? Mud wasn't too bad, but enough of it built up on top of our rock sliders and FROZE on the drive home we couldn't open a couple of the doors. I had to take a rubber mallet to the mud to be able to get Colleen out which was a hilarious first.

Looks like a great day Joe. I love the picture of the salamander. It reminds me of when I was a kid ice skating on the irrigation pond behind the old farm hose and seeing a catfish trapped in the ice.

Made it out to the river for some lunch and enjoy the sound of the water. We love snow and winter but are really looking forward to hitting our swimming holes in the summer.
