The Bighorn Mountains are calling me

Did a short run into the Bighorns as part of a larger WY/SD trip last year and I'm seriously thinking of heading back this year to do more exploring. There was a road that went farther back from where we camped but my brother was in a less capable vehicle so we didn't chance. If I go back I'll most likely be solo so I can go where I want. It was a beautiful area but it was WY of course.
I think maybe this was someone's hunt camp?

This road keeps calling my name.

Epic pictures. a little jealous....ok a lot.....living in SWFL makes visiting there a very long trip even before you hit the dirt.

LOL, a full day drive...if only! Been there twice for about a week each time. Epic, keeps calling my name too. Most of the main FS roads were very well maintained. Some roads were definitely high clearance 4WD stuff. There is a lot of hunting starting in about September?? Fishing was good and not crowded. All those ATVs got a bit annoying but at least there is decent access all over the place. There is a place on the West side called Duncan Lake. Seems like elevation was 9500' or there abouts. I wasn't used to the altitude and after a day I had to go back down some. Fishing was good so I need to get back.

I've spent some time in western WY but this was my first time exploring the eastern part and I was quite surprised. I only hit the southern area of the BHs so there's a lot of area left for me to explore. I want hit the Badlands again this year so I'm hoping I can make enough to time to go back. It's really not that far once you get to the BLs.

It is only a Three day drive (with sleeping stops) for me. Wish it was closer

Went to WY Summer of 2024 and did parts of the BDR and Western parts. Didn't want to leave. Did most of the Big Horn BDR section (Section 8 and most of 7) Beautiful area. Had a blast learning to fly fish with a family friend that traveled with us.

We really liked the Red Gulch Byway it is West of the Big Horns north of Ten Sleep. Didn't have much time to explore when we drove through we were on a bit of a schedule to meet up with our kids. We didn't see a single person when we drove through.
