Well it looks like I will be venturing out of oregon and moving back to my hometown and reestablishing roots. Since I was born and raised in the area im quite familiar with it. I'm super excited to move home. Idaho has some of the most beautiful country in the US. Not to mention all my family and friends still live there. Looking through the threads I didn't see any pertaining to south east Idaho, so I figured I'd start one. If your in this area, drop a line or two and say hello. Ill specifically be in the Idaho falls area for awhile. I'm hoping to find some like minded folks to adventure with.
Cheers

Me and my boys head out NW of Pokey on the desert mainly chasing Jackrabbits when there is numbers. This summer was primarily spent fishing around SE Idaho. We did trip up in the Little Lost area exploring some. Honestly overlanding to me is just a method to haul fishing and camping gear to a destination. I actually try and avoid using 4x4. I am not into breaking stuff mudding or rock crawling lol.

There is some decent fishing in idaho for sure. Have you been out to Blackfoot reservoir? Some good spots to fish around that reservoir.

Yes we spent a lot of time on BF in July chasing carp with fly rods. I cant wait for warm weather to get back there. I really want a plus 20 on the fly. We also bought fishing yaks this spring and plan on taking them up there next summer after bass fishing slows down. This winter we will hit the Snake River Bellow AF dam for trout and be back on bass hopefully by March......But a lot will be dependent on fuel prices next year. This year we averaged close to a tank of fuel a weekend chasing fish, Next summer we may end up camping more at the locations vs driving home at night.

Hello , Welcome to Overland Bound.
I am the Northwest Director. @Sandpoint Steve is your closest member representative.
To help navigate through the forums, here are some links that can be filtered by “Region” prefix. We are in the Overland Bound North America US Northwest Region (US Northwest for short).
Overland Bound Meetups- is where all member generated rally points are posted in forum format for discussion of Rally Point and other types of Meetups. A meetup can be as simple as a group getting together for coffee, a trail ride, or a full in expedition with other Overland Bound Members.
Overland Bound Trip Planning- is a great place to talk about planning a trip wether by your self or as a group.
Overland Bound Routs: Downloadable- is exactly what it sounds like. Search, or share your GPX files here with a description of the route and POIs.
Share your Overland Routes- is similar time the downloadable posted above, but doesn’t require you to share the actual GPX file.
Overland Bound By Region < North America < US Northwest- is where you can find regional members discussing local events, Overland News, and general topics. It’s a great recourse to mete others in the regions.
Member Maps- a great trip planning tool. It can also be used to send out messages to members near your location, or a location you plan to visit.
Rally Point- a tool used to creat Meetups or send out an SOS.
Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask myself or your member representative team. Again welcome and hope to see you on the trails.

Well welcome to overland bound. Hopefully you are finding the site as a useful resource for adventures, and things that lead to adventures. Have you had the chance to get your land rover off the beaten path?

Not yet, everything around here in Pocatello is gated for the winter. Also working on swapping these all-seasons out ASAP!

This time of year those all season tires are going to be better than a mud terrain. I just had to switch to Goodyear duratracs on my rig, the nokian rockproofs are terrible in the snow

Any suggestions for someone headed to the Idaho Falls area for like three days in early May? I’m headed up there for a horse drive and would like to do a little over landing on the way in. Got a kitchen pass and wanna take advantage of it:). I’ll be coming in from the southeast.

I'd start towards Blackfoot reservoir, and head towards caribou mountain. Beautiful country with some old homesteads and mines

Very helpful. Thanks! I’ve never camped on BLM land, so that would be a first for me. I don’t see where the web site lists closed dates. I know several of the places in the Nat’l Forests are closed until late May. So, I just need to be sure these places are open.

Caribou mountain is actually mostly usfs. The mountain actually has some gold claims. Blackfoot reservoir has a good mix of state land, and private. Not much blm land.

Well, welcome to the Idaho bunch of Overland Bound. I am in Twin Falls, along with a small group of really great people. If you're ever this way (South Central Idaho), give a shout out if you want to meet up and talk or check out some local spots or trails.
