San Lorenzo Canyon, NM conditions?

I'm looking at sort of an impromptu trip down into NM next week and was thinking about camping in the San Lorenzo Canyon either Tuesday or Wednesday night. Has anyone been down there recently or know what the conditons are? Are you still able to camp (I'll be in my Jeep with the RTT) down in the canyon itself? Any fees or permits I will need to have to enter that area?

What about Montecello Canyon a little ways south of there? I saw a news article from about 3 years ago that they closed it to offroading, is that still the case?
