Roof Top Tent (RTT) Question

@Roger 2486 I did not buy one of CVT's tents but I called them to get to inquire about mounting hardware. The salesman spent 30 minutes with me, on the phone to determine I was getting the correct mounts and to try and get me a 1/2 set which is all I needed. Their web site did not allow for 1/2 sets to ship to Canada, he had no idea why so I just ordered a full set.

If the rest of their service matches that you could hardly go wrong, I see a lot of their tents up here in BC

They are great tents and i've had great customer service with them. Now I will say that the website of course doesn't do the actual people justice. Also they tend to give a better deal in person(or over phone) rather then using the website. In my experience anyway.

I love my CVT tent. I also have their shower tent. They've always answered my email inquiries promptly and have been very friendly. They also ship quickly.

I bought my ARB RTT well used and abused, so I did not reach out to customer service before the purchase. However, my super cheap RTT was missing the rainfly so I needed to get one. ARB was able to hook me up through my preferred ARB vendor. It was easy and surprisingly inexpensive to get a replacement rainfly from ARB.

Does anyone have experience with Roam Adventure Co. gear tents or CVT? Thoughts?

Just another happy Smittybilt customer I'm afraid. I'm sure the other brands are well made and are good products...haven't seen any major complaints anywhere. But a lot of them are three or four times the cost of the Smittybilt. The biggest surprise was finding the cheapest one to be so acceptable.

I have heard great things about Tuff Stuff Overland's products too, and their price points are low as well.

I have 5 years and counting on my Smittybilt. I have contacted customer service a couple times. Once was a couple years ago to order a new cover and rain fly. Both of mine had minor leaks from extensive use. I think I paid around $150 for the two. The replacement items were of even better quality than the originals. I contacted the again after a storm bent one of the 3 inner hoops/arches that hold the body of the tent. I really just called to see how much it would be to get a replacement, but they shipped me 3 new ones at no charge. I have also contacted them for parts for an 8x6 awning I let a storm tear up. As for giving back to their customers, somewhere in the last 5 years, I won a contest with credit for $400 worth of gear or something like that. I selected their version of MaxTrax, a new 8x6 awning, and a tailgate table. The value was slightly over the prize amount, so I offered to pay the difference, but they let me have all 3 anyway.

I know some of their products are of questionable durability but I'm over 100 nights in my tent and it's held up great. I've probably had the awning out 3 times as much as the tent. The new Gen 2 rooftop tents have a ton of upgrades over the original stuff. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I 2nd the Smittybilt. U cant beat them buck for buck hands down. With that said a hard shell RTT is going to be easier to setup and take down but there 3 grand more to.

I have heard great things about SB soft sided RTTs. Glad to hear that yours is taking care of you too.

The hard shells are so nice too. I agree with you on the price, but the ease may pay for itself in the long run.

Hard shell definitely on the LIST down the road. Just so much stuff to buy If you got the cash I would go with a hard shell iKamper, the iKamper mini will be my next RTT 100% Thanks for the comments

Very happy with our Overland-Pros RTT. Around $1400 with shipping. Quality is great, mattress is 3" and comfortable. Skylights are the best feature for us. Nice to see the stars when out.

Those iKamper skycamp minis are beautiful!! Unfortunately I don't have the $3500 to spare, but if I did, I agree with you. :)
