My SIL and I made to the Hot Springs ORV Park last Thursday for RR 2018. This year they had a record number of rigs, 78, and the park was packed. I left Ponchatoula on Wed. headed for north Alabama to pick up Joseph and Thursday we left for Hot Springs...and boy was it hot...like 97 degrees!
That 1st night we ate at McClards BBQ in HS. They opened shop in 1928 and are still doing their original famous sauce. Next morning we fell in with a group of FJ80 Land Cruisers and did trails all day. Ours is a stock FJ Cruiser and it was a challenge to go places the lifted 80's on 33's went. Amazing views and drop dead scenery.
Saturday was a bit slower paced as we struck out on our own for the newer trails across the highway from the main park. Very challenging and after successfully making it back decided we should've had a trail partner.
Sidenote; We met the Brofessor and his lovely wife, and had a great discussion on all things Overland Bound. Oh, the day we left the heat wave left and we had low 60's temps as we packed Sunday morning. Sigh. Still a great trip.
