So there’s a possibility that I may be relocating my family to CT to be closer to extended family.
I wanted to get a rough idea of what the overland/camping/adventure scene is like out there compared to SoCal. We’re not really into rock crawling/mudding etc - more of getting off the beaten path and exploring and camping.
Being in SoCal were used to the idea that we could get to trails (though populated) in about an hour and a half and Yosemite in about 5 hours.
Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

There is no public lands to speak of and you will have to drive north to find roads to find the adventure you seek. NY is basically the same way. Basically the only places to camp are in campgrounds or designated areas. I live right by Connecticut so I drive there all the time. Most of the harder roads are up in Vermont and Maine, maybe New Hampshire? NY just has some easy dirt roads and New Jersey has some more off pavement roads. Hope this helps.
