About two weeks ago a couple of OB MidEurope members went to Mammoth Park together. The Mammoth Park is located in the middle of Germany and is an area of about 130 hectares where you can drive offroad for an entrance fee. There are easy, difficult and very difficult tracks. Uphill and downhill, sloping passages, water crossings, mud holes, passages to test the flexing, winch hills and adventurous tree trunk bridges. By the way, you can also find the park as a POI in the OB 1 app.
Actually, the international Lada Niva meeting was supposed to take place there that weekend, but it was cancelled due to lack of participation. Nevertheless, about 40 Niva fans and friends came and we were happy to go there as well. We, that are @Valentin Schneider @rhihealey @GEO_Fabi.Mhlr and me @El-Dracho .
Friday we met in the park and first set up a cozy camp.
The campfire burned late into the night or rather early into the morning and we had a great time talking and exchanging travel stories.
After a relaxed breakfast together on Saturday morning, we drove into the field. It had rained a little bit. Rather, the only rain cloud far and wide emptied over the terrain. We had a lot of fun. An ideal place to try out the vehicles and one's own skills, to recreate typical obstacle situations on trips and to have fun together.
Unfortunately, the driver of a beautiful Series 2 Landrover, which is about 70 years old, had got stuck in a very steep and muddy hill. We have helped him of course and have recovered the vehicle in a 2 hour action. Thanks to @GEO_Fabi.Mhlr powerful winch, proper high quality recovery equipment and the help from all of us everything turned out well.
After that we cleaned the vehicles. This is especially important here, because the soil is clay. And then we drove back to the camp. After the recovery action, we deserved a barbecue and a cold beer.
Again, the campfire burned late into the night. After a big breakfast we headed towards home on Sunday afternoon. On the way back we only took small roads. Here we are just in Marsberg. There is a fantastic church and many other historic buildings that are over 1000 years old. Great, what you can just discover along the way.
Such a trip to an offroad park is a great opportunity to try out and improve the driving skills. And of course to meet nice people and friends. We will definitely go there again or to one of the other offroad parks. If you want to come along, just check the Rally Points and see when a meetup like this will take place again. Everyone is welcome.
Thanks to @Valentin Schneider for contributing some of the photos. Those of you who have more photos are welcome to add them.
Happy trails,
Bjoern
