Hi, I'm Jonathan, down near Houston, Texas, I'm looking to purchase my vehicle for overlanding in the next 6 months or so. Currently drive a '10 Ram 2500, unfortunately its only 2wd. I plan to drop a threat about vehicle selection; I know what I have my eye on but wanted to get some feedback and thoughts.

Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to Overland Bound!

Especially if you're new to overlanding, I would suggest starting with what you have and figuring out what you really need. Do you really need a 4x4? Take it out for a trip first and think about what you actually need. There are a lot of members here, and surely some in your area too (check out the map), who would be happy to help you get started with overlanding. You might even find a meetup in the Rally Points section here.

Have fun on your trips.

Safe travels,
Bjoern

South of Houston, know quite a few spots the 2wd is fine

Nice I’m know there’s plenty of good spots just have to find them. Main reason is I’m about to inherit a 2019 Honda pilot and that is not a vehicle I want to keep.

Hello Jonathan (@RoydRage83 ), welcome to Overland Bound. I am one of your Local Experts for Texas. Nothing wrong with a 2WD. There's even a thread on here dedicated to it. (2WD Rigs)

The Houston area has this meetup here: RecurringBryan College Station Meet-up

South Central Texas has this meetup: Rigsand Coffee - South Central Texas

The one we attend for North Central Texas is in Georgetown: Recurring- North Central Texas Meet & Greet
