New to forums and the idea of overlanding

  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Hi all, I got here by searching on "Cascadia versus Roofnest" !

I'm just starting to explore the IDEA of overlanding. I was looking at travel trailers up to a few days ago, but there are sooooo many scams out there, whether you're buying new or used. I think I could get most of what I'm looking for with a nice used truck or jeep and a good rooftop tent.

I'm 55 and am based in central Mexico, although I will be looking to do some camping in the US Southwest.

I should mention that I'll be van camping / glamping for the very first time in a few weeks courtesy of Voyager camper van rentals... in west Texas. Seems the easiest way to dip a toe in without a huge financial commitment.

Can't wait to read up on topics like ham radio! I feel like I've stepped back in time (in the best way)!

Welcome from So Cal! A RTT or a overland camper are good ways to travel with.
