Regarding the camping possibility in that area, have you checked the OB Map? It shows some POIs in that area.

Check out San Luis Gonzaga, Las Animas, San Francisquito, El Barril, San Evaristo. on theSea of Cortez side. Punta San Jose, Erendira, Punta Colonet, Punta San Jose, Punta Maria, Punta Rosarito on the Pacific side. There are lots of place tp see and visit.
