Have you ever been out on an adventure and something goes wrong? Parts break, tires pop the bead, your rig generates a noise that you're pretty sure is catastrophic......
You think through the problem and then, BAM! This simple idea comes to your mind so you try it out and without any more problems at all you go about your day...
If that's happened to you, let's share your fix. These are problems that have the potential of being a big deal but yet we fixed them with a simple solution. I'll go first.
Rig- 2015 Toyota Tundra.
Problem- Front passenger brake started making a horrible screaching sound.
It was a snowy day and we had pulled into a snowy gravel parking lot for a bathroom break. We pulled out of the parking lot and it was almost an instant scratching/screeching noise when we hit the highway. I do a lot of my own work (which is another tip I'd throw your way so that you can also diagnose your own problems) and it sounded to me like the brake was hitting the back plate. These plates have very little clearance and I even had to bend the plate last time I did a brake job to add clearance... I was sure it was something either rubbing or I possibly kicked a rock up and it was stuck somewhere it shouldn't be. I pulled over as soon as possible and drove forward as my crew listened closely. I was getting ready to grab a jack and take the wheel off when I thought to myself, drive backwards and see if whatever got in there will pop out... I put her in reverse and a "TING" type noise happens... I pull forward and the sound it gone. Soooo glad I decided to try that simple thing rather than taking things apart. We went about our day!
