I drive a old 2000 Cherokee. Ive gotten a 3.5 lift and I've got 31 inch tires. I was trying to get into overlanding but dont have a ton to spend. Any suggestions what to get? I'm not planning on anymore lift or tires for now. So either performance mods or cosmetics would he helpful. Thanks!!

The only 3 things I did first to my xj was rock slides, front bumper and a winch. The xj already had a 4inch lift. All items wear used and purchased off Facebook market place or Craigslist, all done on a budget for 500.00. Have fun.

Get a tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag of craigslist, a cheap cooler (coleman marine) and go camping. If you want to get into overlanding, you need to do it! Find some place you'd like to go camp and go camp. A cast iron skillet can be used over coals to cook and bring plenty of drinking water and trash bags.

Go have fun! You don't have to have a super built rig to travel and camp. We've done it with a Ford Escort.... Find some folks to go with near you. I'm sure the members map will show someone in your area. I camped for many years with a walmart tent, coleman sleeping bag and cooked hot dogs on sticks over the fire. But I was having fun. As I've gotten older and watched the guys I hang out with, I've developed a pretty nice setup with mostly second hand gear.

As others have said a full tank of gas and some camping gear are all you need. A first aid kit is a great first purchase. If you are looking for specific truck mod ideas since you've got lift and tires already rock sliders would really be the next move but only if you really think you're going to be getting into the rocks. If you end up loving the fire roads and just touring and camping you may never need the sliders. Let your adventures dictate your purchases.

I concur with what everyone says here. Besides the aforementioned, bring a pad of paper and a pen. Jot down the things you are missing when you miss them. “Oh shoot....I wish I had one of those....”. Jot it down! Also, don’t go in above your skill or confidence level by yourself. Nothing worse than getting stuck off the grid and having no one there to help you get out of trouble. Ease your way in....but just get started by going! In fact, go this weekend!!
