Hi everyone,
I have been roaming this forum for quite a few years now and figured it was time to subscribe.
I sort of got into overlanding as an accident / necessity.
I am an avid mountain climber, backpacker, kayaker and regularly on multi day trips in remote locations.
As a result of that, I need a car able to take me to those remote places, establish base camp, study the maps and mountain/river topography, perhaps wait at base camp a few days for a weather window and go on a trip and get back to my car.
I travel across the west of the US and I am based in LA the rest of the year.
I have Jeep grand Cherokee Overland 2015 (WK2). Yes this is quite rare and is probably not the best car for off roading / pure overlanding however I find it to be a great compromise for me:
It is very capable off road for me, performs flawlessly on highways (where let's face it, 90% of my driving occurs), it is very comfortable and is relatively civilized looking in the city.
Now the Grand Cherokee comes poorly loaded as a base vehicle and requires some modifications in order to perform:
- I currently have a set of Black Rhino wheels + Terra Grappler 275/55/20
- Gobi roof rack and ladder
- Extra battery
- Basic off road recovery kit (including hi lift, jump starter pack, maxtrax, recovery ropes, no winch)
- Mopar Max Care (Because, hey it's still a Jeep : )
I am currently installing the following items:
- Wilco Hitchgate
- Awning Foxwing
- Chief's product plates, side rails and front runner (to be released this year).
- Water tank and fuel tank
I am very weight conscious for myself when I go climbing and so naturally, I treat my rig the same way and try to stick to what's necessary.
Here's a picture of her. More to come with the new modifications.
