Good Tembo Tusk Skottle alternative?

  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

I have a TT Skottle and love it. But I can't help feeling like there's cheaper alternatives for those more frugal. Anyway, I found this cast iron disc on amazon and it looks like it may be even more versatile than the TT. Has anyone used this or something similar? I get compliments on my skottle from friends until i tell them the price. I'd love to give them a cheaper alternative that works as well if possible.

One of the Q&A answers give a bit of detail on how to extend the legs an additional 4" to allow for a standard propane tank and burner under it.

There have been several DIY threads using this and the Southwest Disk discada. Some guys have done some pretty cool things as far as how they did the legs and the heat source.

Definitely a cheaper, and still very useful, alternative
